ADHD/Autism

Hiya I have a quick question for mums with children that have been diagnosed. What signs did you see? I am a mum of 2 year old boy. I have been asked few times if my son is autistic or if he has ADHD by other people. I never thought that he could be I just thought he is being difficult and other people are judging me. My son is over 2 years old now and slowly starting to say words. He only recently start calling me a mum. He has very poor sleeping habits he wakes up at night cry and go back to sleep. Sometimes he will wake up at 3 am And be ready to play. He has improved but before he would wake up every 1-3 h crying and going back to sleep. He will go to sleep late and get up early or occasionally have a lay in. Naps are hit and miss sometimes he will sleep well and other days he will not sleep at all. He is very active he will run around climb on everything jump on the bed sofa and even if he falls off he will cry get up and do the same thing. if I tell him to stop put him in time out he doesn’t care. He is everywhere he will only sit down if I put some cartoons for him but that doesn’t last long When the bedtime routine starts it’s like he gets possessed he gets so hyper I can’t calm him down. He is picky eater he will refuse anything that is soft or slimy like pasta. He is not willing to try new food and he eats the same thing everyday. He loves playing with toys that have wheels and can be pushed. I buy different toys for him I would play with him but his interest will last minutes and he will start throwing toys. He will pull out all toys so he can tip them out and throw them. He struggles with his emotions if something doesn’t go his way he will scream, bite, hit everything around and drop on the floor. I know they go through terrible 2s but his tantrums have been bad since he could crawl. So going anywhere I have to prepare myself mentally. He can’t stay in one spot for too long so being in a pushchair or car seat it’s a struggle, he screams to get out. We have a daily routine and I take him out twice a day to burn his energy but the only person who is tired is me. 😪 Please can anyone tell me everything gets easier. I feel overwhelmed tired and like a failure.

My little girl is very similar to this. She is only 18 months old but she has always been ‘different’. At what age did your little boy start to crawl/walk?

@Tiffany so he started to crawl after 7 months and walk when he was 15 months old.

Does ADHD/autism run in your family?

Also, I find that less is more when it comes to toys. Are all your little boys toys accessible to him? If so, try and rotate 3/4 toys every three days or so

Choosing low stimulation cartoons can also help. I have a list of some good ones if you’d like to know them . You could message me privately x

Sounds very very much like my nearly 3yo. Except that she used to wake up to 25 times a night and won't be consoled without us. She now wakes 3-5 times a night. Everything else sounds the same. I've recently listened to the audio book HOW NOT TO MURDER YOUR ADHD Kid and I've really learned a lot already from it and glad I found it now already, instead of an older age. Def worth the listen.. Lots of practical advise.
