Potty training

For those whose child is in full time nursery, how did you manage to potty train them? My little one has been saying for months she needs the toilet but only ever actually done something once. We use the actual toilet with the baby seat rather than a potty. Really confused on where or how to start properly training her when she's at nursery full time.

This has crossed my mind too! Interested to see some replies!

Not from my own experience.. as I haven’t started yet, but some parents from childminder setting my lo is in, they took off 2 weeks to stay home for potty training.. happy to hear any suggestions too

We tried over a long weekend used the bank holiday in August & then nursery were really helpful. Sent little one in in pull ups for a week until he was near enough always dry then they were going to let him go in underpants the following week. Could you maybe book a Monday off and try a long weekend with them & then discuss with nursery?

@Lily what method did you use for potty training? Literally just leave them in underwear and put them on the potty when they need to go? I'll probably take your advice and book a day off to have a long weekend of trying to master it

Yeah underwear and just prompting every 20/30 mins if they wanted a wee. Dont get me wrong he had a lot of accidents the first day but it got better each day. & by the time nursery came on the Tuesday he loved it because lots of his friends were also potty training so they all went together. Best of luck 😊

I am a nursery manager and I would always suggest either making use of the bank holidays so you have a long weekend or booking off a Thursday/Friday or Monday/Tuesday to give them a good few days at home first! If your little one is telling you that they need a wee then keep encouraging this and letting them use the toilet! 😀
