I’ve never heard of this being a safety issue my son was in the nicu and his consultant said they do dream feed sometimes 🤷🏼♀️ we also had to dream feed most bottles because of silent reflux

Dream feeds are an ideal and happen by chance - is what I learnt after having 3 babies! Best to go with what your boy wants when he wants. Wanted to do dream feeds for my first 2 boys, nope 👎 they fed all the time but didn’t do the so called dream feed. But my 3rd, girl does a dream feed because she wants to 🤷♀️
@Isa this really isn’t enough evidence ( which it does also say this) and it does state it’s a hypothesis
Update, it was not the dream feed, he has thrown up every feed since 7pm. Think I'd prefer it was the dream feed cause now I've got a poorly baby instead 🫠
Everyone choses to do what is best for them and their child :) regardless, I am sorry to hear your baby is poorly Hannah, hope he gets better soon x
If baby is sleeping leave them to sleep. Xx
@Hannah poor baby - maybe he has a big 😬💙. Hope he feels better xx
Sorry to snoop I see your baby is almost 6 months unless the doctor advises you, or if you feel like he’s underweight, you do not need to worry about feeding you can let baby sleep he’s just trying to learn his sleep pattern. A month ago my baby was still doing every 3-4 hours and eventually his body was telling us it was too much, it came right back up a lot but now he sleeps 12 hrs through the night. Baby will also be starting solids soon with their bottles at that point. So whatever makes you comfortable, go mama!
I would leave baby until they wake you for a feed unless there’s issues with their weight gain. My LO is 6 months, as far as dream feeds go she usually starts stirring around 11pm (goes to bed between 7/8pm) I usually make a bottle and give her this at that time before she’s fully roused and she tends to go back down in her cot within minutes of finishing her milk. I tend to find nights where I do this I get a slightly longer stretch before her next wake (although my LO is still up multiple times a night 🫠) x
@Hamdi equally a baby until they are one gets 30% of their calorie intake from nighttime feeds and secondly as a breastfeeding Mum myself I know I need to either pump or feed to maintain my daytime supply. It is important that if baby is waking you find out whether it is from hunger or comfort if it’s from hunger then a bottle needs to be offered.
@Emma I understand, she just mentioned about waking the baby up. If he’s waking up hungry of course do what makes baby and mama comfortable. & yes pumping/feeding will keep up your supply for sure! Go mamas! ❤️
Dream feeds are generally not recommended as they increase the risk of aspiration.. as hard as it is I would just wait for baby to wake up and feed as normal x
