Grunting

My 5 month old and 2 week LO started grunting about a week ago. She doesn’t seem like she’s in pain. She just does this. I thought maybe because she was frustrated but she could be sitting constantly and still do this. Is this her using her voice? I’m worried this is a sign of something more significant.

Mines been grunting and growling since he was about that age and he’s a year old now (and he still does it). Sometimes it’s to poop. Sometimes it’s at toys. Sometimes it’s for food. Sometimes it’s just cause he can.

My baby is doing the same thing for a good while, he'll be 5 months in a few days. He's calming himself and putting himself to sleep with grunting. Also makes that sound when he poops. But sometimes I think it's just because he likes to hear his own voice.☺️

It's normal, babies grunt!!

Yeah my son grunted a lot when he was a newb lol, they just be exploring their voices.

The grunting is usually one of 3 things: 1) frustration 2) trying to push out a poo 3) the body trying to figure out HOW to push out a poo or wind down below(that's another reason they may grunt then randomly cry. The crying helps build enough pressure to push since they can't). If they are grunting when awake I'd do bicycle legs and other such exercises as often as you can to help them move it along. Good luck though, we're currently going through the grunting stage too
