I have twins 19 months they not talking much either I m concerned only words like mama etc I hear nothing else .. but they do take dummy during the day which I m finding it hard to get rid off
Mine are 2.5 years, they started speaking about a year old but had a speech regression and didn't start talking again until about 6 months ago. Was just sounds for a few weeks then a few clear words, now they talk in 3-5 word sentences. If your twins don't know sign language maybe give it ago. My twins got really frustrated when they started talking again because I couldn't understand them but they taught themselves sign from youtube😂 and that's how we communicated with each. When they started saying words they stopped signing but I continued to sign so they knew I could understand the word they were trying to say, made communication a little less stressful for all of us
@Maria mine still have a dummy also, I only let them have it at nap time or bed time. The rest of the day is a lot of back and forth they ask I say no, it goes on all day until they get it to go to sleep again, the only thing I can suggest is consistency. Lately each day they ask less and less for their dummy in the day, from what I've noticed they only ask when they are tired, but still i only give it if I know they will lay down to sleep
Honestly I wouldn't be concerned yet, once they hit like 4 if they're struggling then look into help but this sounds pretty normal! One of my brothers didn't talk until he was 4 and now he's a surgeon so it's all good, every kid has their own pace don't compare them to anyone else or each other. Just keep talking to them, Miss Rachel can help, read lots and lots of books to them, sing with them, they'll get there when they're ready!
My twin boys are going to be 2 in January, they are not talking yet too. But i heard that boys start talking later. My husband started talking at 3 years old, and he hasnt shut up since. So i dont think you need to worry about it, but check with your pediatrician!
@Ally I have tried hiding and saying no, but they start crying for it and then I have to give it.. how do you solve that? Even a distraction doesn’t help and sometimes it helps for few mins but then they keep asking for it
@Maria you can snip the tips so they don't like the feeling of sucking on them anymore, you can take them with you outside and plant them in the ground, then a couple hours later take them out and there are lollipops where you planted the binkies from the binkie fairy, and boom bang they're gone and not even an option and they get a reward for it
@Kylee hahah good one . Thanks 🙏
@Maria I know first hand how annoying the repetition is but it is literally a case of ignoring them asking for it and not giving in. If you only want them to have it for sleep like I do with mine only offer it at those times, if you want to stop it entirely just chuck them in the bin
We felt the same way at that age. At their 2 year check up we could count the words they said on two hands, so less than 10 each. Our pediatrician didn't seem too concerned since they were hitting most other milestones, though. They are now 2.5yo and we just got through (well there's a light at the end of the tunnel I think) a long sleep regression and they are starting to string together sentences! They repeat everything and are constantly surprising us the last couple weeks. Just keep reading and doing what you're already doing in engaging, and your pediatrician will help offer resources or intervention if they are concerned. Otherwise.... it is coming! Just keep going!
