I think possibly, in the future, as we've seen a big dip in birthrate. My school was a 5 form entry with all classes full when I started almost 8 years ago. It is now a three form and the classes are not full anymore. It's crazy!
I think they should increase maternity leave, as the job market is going down anyway after so many businesses shutting down post covid and increased length of mat leave would solve the nursery costs for families (they sponsor the hours in nurseries now partially so instead the money could be used for the extended leave) and also would help with the decrease in job offers, so not so many unemployed people. Also would be incentive for mums to want have children, because this was one of my biggest worries as in - what will I do when baby is just 1 year and I have to go back to work already?!!
To be honest the last thing we need right now is to keep having more children in a country where the government can’t even afford to take care of the people who are already here, maybe in a few years this topic could be revisited but not in 2024. Labour just announced that they will be sending 3 BILLION POUNDS every year for “ as long as it takes” to the Ukraine like British families arent living in poverty. When they start to put their own people first that’s when society can help out the government by increasing the population
Interested to hear people’s opinions too if they have anything more to add, I know when speaking about it to friends it’s been a resounding yes the government should be paying parents to have more kids so I’m interested in different opinions on it
