CMPA reaction to nutramigen formula

My baby is 4 weeks old been on nutramigen since a few days old due to mucus & blood in his dirty nappies. Suspected CMPA after being sent to the hospital.

However I’m unsure if he’s now having a delayed reaction to the milk. since joining a CMPA group and learning a bit more about it all I think this milk might not be suiting him.

Very frequent nappies during & after bottles Poo can vary between seedy looking, paste and with mucus being more regular the last few days/ week

Bringing up clear liquid/ milk at times
Unsettled with tummy/ wind arching back was worse in evenings but seems to be happening during the day over the last couple of days.
Hiccups often after bottles
Congested sounding sometimes
Coughing when drinking milk not sure if that from it being a thinner consistency

We do have a GP appointment this week but just wanted some more advice in the meantime.

Thanks ☺️

Any adivice would be very appreciated

With nutramigin its 10% so if baby has a full allergy symptoms will come bavk 10-14 days after starting so take baby back to gp or hospital explain and they will probs put on the next level up milk iv just been through it with my little one xxx

I would sudgest aswell if they put him on a diff milk to ask for thickner my baby was put onto alphamino after and it was way to thin she was bringing up the whole bottle so had to get her thickner and she drinks it fine now xxx

Thankyou it all seems like trial and error. Hope we find something that suitable for him soon he has such a sore bottom too 😭 xxx

my little girl was exactly like that it really is trial and error and is so heartbreaking when there so little going through so much but fingers crossed they will get it sorted for him🤞xxxx

Would definitely say to try them on a different milk! My LO is on aptamil pepti so not sure how that compares to the nutramigin but there are definitely different options out there

Avatar

Thankyou. Is that the first milk your little one has been tried on? I’m really hoping we don’t have to keep trying lots of different things, since doing research on different groups it all seems so complex 🤯 xx

We had the same. Was put on pepti which improved the symptoms then they started to get worse again. We’re now ok on Pureamino

They're on the same level with both being extensively hydrolysed formulas. Only difference being that Pepti is whey-based and Nutramigen is casein-based in terms of the milk protein they contain.

Usually you would try one of each before moving on to an amino-acid formula, which is completely dairy-free. Unless baby reacted to breast milk as well as it's on a similar level as EHF milks for the amount of milk protein. If that's the case then you would usually try one EHF formula and then an amino-acid formula or go straight to amino-acid formula

I’m assuming alphamino is an amino acid formula my baby was only tried on nutramagin before being put on in any idea why?xx

Avatar

Yes, Alfamino is amino-acid. It might've been severity of the reaction or doctor just trying to be proactive. Had they reacted to breast milk as well? X

Avatar

no she was only ever formula fed she did have a bit on bloody mucus in her poo but only once her symptoms were bad but I wouldn’t say severe maybe it was due to the bloody mucus x

My little girl was initially good on Nutramigen but it stopped working for her. We started on Nutramigen which is casein based then SMA Althera which is whey based and now are on SMA Alfamino which is an amino acid. She is 100x better now than when she was on the other ones

Hello, sorry I know this is a an old post but what was the outcome?
My son was out on nutramigen for a suspected cows milk allergy at 2 weeks. It’s now been over a week and he has all the symptoms you have listed. My eldest son had CMPA and was on Nutramigen for a week and settled down pretty quick but with my second he seems so unsettled and constantly on and off crying 😩

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

6 month old autistism

My 6 month old makes no eye contact with me and doesn’t respond when I call him. Can this just be a phase or personality trait as apposed to autism

Baby with chronic congestion

Hi everyone! My 1 year has been a congested baby since birth almost. She breathes through her mouth so often that it wakes her up multiple times at night and she cries and screams and then struggles to go back to sleep. She wakes up every 1-3 hours and sometimes can’t go back to sleep for 2-3 hours!!! Piriton is the only thing that seems to help her sleep mostly through the night but I can’t keep giving her that!!
Does anyone have tips as to have I can do or give her? Has anyone experienced? I have no idea when I’ll get an ENT appointment and I have no idea what he can give a 13 mo :( we are desperate for sleep so any tips are welcome!! We have tried steam inhalation, saline drops, vapour rubs and everything off the counter basically!

Combi feeding advice

Has anyone gone from EBF to combi feeding? Currently do one bottle of EBM per night and they one half formula half breast milk mixed in the day. The other times she still feeds on me. Ideally I want to feed all day via bottle and all night with breast. She’s 7 weeks and takes a bottle well, how long should I leave it before adding another bottle to her daily routine?
