@Emily thank you! That’s really reassuring, as it’s never the same there was bigger feeds then smaller ones so I just need to think of it like that
I was the exact same when I had my little girl I would cry with worry that she wasn't eating enough. Trust yourself! As long as baby is having wet nappies that just shows thay baby is getting what they need. Also baby is still so new there won't be a routine yet xxx
You will know if they are hungry, they will tell you. Don't worry too much. My baby does 10ml feeds up to 80ml feeds it varies and sometimes it's every hour or 4 hours, but she tells me when she needs it. Trust yourself and baby plus the health visitors will support you.
@Chloe it’s so frightening isn’t it! Every time I do his nappy it’s wet, and he has at least 1 poo a day so maybe I need to listen to these things! Thank you lovely xxx
@Robyn how old is your little one? So some times your baby may have a feed that is much smaller compared to another feed which could be bigger? Maybe I was just expecting him to be having certain amounts every time, I made it worse for myself by looking online and that saying what he should be having but I am giving him food on his hunger queues and the ml’s just range different each time x
Your hormones are fluctuating and feeding this worry - I remember really suffering at day 5. You are doing great, sounds like baby is eating well! Is he having lots of wet nappies? If he is, then please don’t worry about the intervals/amounts. Give this a read 💜 https://www.unicef.org.uk/babyfriendly/breastfeeding-the-dangerous-obsession-with-the-infant-feeding-interval/
@Beth it’s a tough journey isn’t it😩 yeah baby has lots of wet nappies and usually at least 1 poo a day… it also turns out my prep machine has been making an extra just over 10ml so baby is actually feeling a little bit more than I realised which has made me feel a little more at ease! Thank you so much lovely I shall have a read🥰xxx
My girl is 5 months now but I remember the start! I feel like I spent most of my time worrying and it stopped me from enjoying those early weeks. Take it easy on yourself, you're the mom you would know if something was seriously wrong and you will both learn each other over the next weeks and months and it does get so much easier I promise xxx
As someone who has always been worried about how much my child is eating (1 yr old noe, but she was a premie) I just want you to know that 99% of the time you really don't need to be worried. Some babies eat more than others, some eat less. Some are big, some are small. So long as yours isn't acting hungry, is still peeing regularly, and growing at their own pace, it's all ok! Some days will be bigger than others, but it all balances out!
