Nursery settling in

Has anyone only recently enrolled with the nursery? My LB is having a very tough time saying goodbye and is full of dread and worry even mentioning nursery. I think where he is 3 now his level of understanding is much greater than if I had started him younger. He has only been a few weeks but has only been doing 2/3hrs at a time. I don’t know how long to continue or if I should just forget it and wait until he starts school instead. It breaks my heart seeing him so upset, he has a nice time when he does calm down but I can tell from the pictures and videos he isn’t ’his usual self' or completely happy. Anyone else in the same position?

My oldest son didn't do childcare until he started school and he was the same,I had to go in and sit with him cos he was so used to being with just me

My girl has been in nursery for 2 years now and never settled. We are moving her to a smaller nursery in January. If it's brand new to them it will take a month or so, but my advice is if they still won't settle look for a more suitable nursery or childminder where they can build real bonds. Wish I would have listened to my instincts earlier but a big nursery just doesn't suit my girl and id pull her completely if i could ❤️

My LB started nursery at around 13months, and I’d say it took him about six months. It was excruciating. He loves it now so we are glad we persisted but whilst I’m the thick of it it was hard. I wish more was written about it. You always hear how it takes 2-6 weeks and kids enjoy it once parents leave etc that was not us at all. We didn’t get a smiley happy pic until about a year into nursery 🥹 so just to say, I feel you and hear you. Give yourself a deadline and if things don’t improve by then then look at alternatives. Wishing you all the best.
