Help

My little girl is 21 months old. Not talking much yet & doesn’t respond to her name. She is the happiest & most affectionate wee girl who I just adore. She has great eye contact, loves hugs and kisses, plays with her toys when she wants too other times she just comes up and sits on the sofa with me or plays with the dog. She loves outside, climbing & exploring. My main concern is her not responding to her name or saying a lot of words, also her not understanding simple things such as “go get your shoes” etc like other kids her age do. Anytime I Google I get more and more scared she has autism due to the not responding to her name. I know if she is autistic it’s not the end of the world but my heart just breaks at the thought of it. I have nothing against anyone with autism but you just never want to hear there is something your child might have that could affect her having a “normal” life. Some days I get so worked up by it all I can’t stop crying. What if she never says “love you” to me, what if she never speaks at all, what if she never has friends because she can’t speak to them, what if she never speaks to her sister, what if she is just stuck in herself forever, what if??

I would pay for a private speech therapist, mine was the same and now talks in 2-3 word sentences

It’s also typical toddler behaviour not to respond

I’m sure it will come. My sons only just started talking and it’s the most bizzare words. Won’t say mum but will say hoover 50 times a day 😂. If you have any concerns speak to your HV, they can do referrals. Do you think it could be hearing issues?x

I'm sure it will come in time, I think at this age it's hard to tell if there is any neurodivergency as some things are typical toddler behaviour. Whilst my Son talks alot (always has done) and does respond to his name, simple commands etc he doesn't ALWAYS and straight up ignores me a good 90% of the time 😅 just keep working with her, read lots, practice getting shoes/bags/coats etc some toddlers just take a little longer to understand things! However if your really worried maybe contact your health visitor x
