Are there any local breastfeeding support groups near you? If you live in Manchester, I know a few here x
My baby kept latching on and off so I totally get you! Try not to worry ❤️ I went to my local feeding team drop in and they also said make sure you position tummy to tummy but also make sure you have a firm hold, particularly between shoulders. This allows them to move their head but keeps them close enough to maintain a latch xx
No one warns you how hard breastfeeding is!! You are not alone. Have you tried a nipple shield? My baby latched straight away with one doesn’t without so I’m using them as long as I have to! The NHS can provide you some or you can buy them online. I currently use MAM ones. Good luck, please don’t be hard in yourself! It’s so tough for so many people, do what’s right for you & your baby do not stress yourself out over it xx
I’d recommend a private lactation specialist x
How does he latch? Not deep enough? Or on/off , painful? Just thinking of some ideas for you to try help / what I've learnt from last time/this time x
If you can afford it then I’d thoroughly recommend a private lactation consultant, she really helped me improve positions which improved things but it didn’t solve them. We’ve been cleared of tongue tie but still struggle to maintain a good latch especially on the right so I’m taking him to an osteopath tomorrow as i think he has tension in the neck which may be affecting it. It’s really tough. We have maybe 1/2 out of 8/9 feeds a day where he latches ok then the others are frustrating for both of us and painful for me. I’ve now introduced 1-2 bottles of expressed a day which has relieved a lot of pressure for me. May be worth considering?
My baby is the same, she’s 2 weeks old and i struggle with getting her to latch even after seeing midwife and breastfeeding support workers. She was great in the first few days but now won’t stay on. I found that doing tummy to tummy when she’s calm, not necessarily hungry, seemed to work and she would get a good latch. But when she’s hungry and stressed she won’t. I mainly just express my milk now as I was getting so stressed and upset over it.
I had exactly the same, I ended up going to a local breast feeding unit in hospital for a few nights as I was at breaking point! Lie baby tummy to tummy & hold around the dark of your nipple with two finger clamping it either side. Try get some milk out the nipple and let the baby smell it then he should jump on - be persistent you’ll get it!
