I normally pump first thing in the morning from one boob and that is normally enough for a bottle. If not I do one other pump in the day to top it up a little bit. I will then freeze it if I don't need to use it in the next few days. I don't pump all the time just when I want to save a bit of milk if I know someone might be looking after LO for a couple of hours but this is rare. I use a Mom cosy pump.
I would feed off one boob and pump the other. Then rotate the boobs. Don’t be disheartened if you only get a lil bit out. It’s not a true reflection of what baby gets. Also get a good pump. I recommend the hospital grade ones. They are expensive but you can get done great second hand ones off Vinted. I’ve been through a few pumps and wish I got spectra from the start. Good luck with your journey
@Dani thanks so much. I have the medela swing and it's just so rubbish.
@Amy OK ahh man I already have him a feed of both boobs right now which would be the 1st feed. Once he's back down I'll try and pump. Yes that's what I want to do just pump and freeze it all so it's ready to go whenever I need it.
@Natalia thank you so much. Such a detailed message. Oh wow 10/12 times is a lot😅 will my boobs even cope let's see I'll try to do it as often as possible today. If I'm doing it that much would it not interfere with how much he will have to actually drink now though, pumping that much must make my boobs completely empty!? No I have a single pump so 40 mins for me 🥲 ok I'll get started today
Yes I feed from both boobs normally in the morning but if I know I need a bit more to freeze then I will do the same as Dani pump one and feed the other. I will pick the one that's the most engorged for the pump to go on and baby on the other. If babys still hungry I put her onto the one I pumped with after. I don't pump every day maybe once or twice a week.
@Amy thanks so much! OK I'll do this all.. a very small amount of milk today again but hopefully doing it every day for the time being will help!
Firstly you would probably need to increase your supply. To do it you should feed/pump around 10/12 times in 24hours period. Pumping should not excess 20 minutes for one breast, so if you have double pump 20 mins in total. You can try power pumping or cluster pumping to also increase your supply. Because your supply is already stabilised it might be a little bit harder to increase it but it is not impossible :) obviously on the begging it will look like there is not much milk to pump but after 2/3 weeks amount should increase :)
