My baby is weaning himself 💔

At first I thought it was a breastfeeding strike because he was under the weather - but it’s persisting and he barely feeds anymore 😢 is anyone experiencing anything similar? Only interested in stories of where the baby (rather than the mother) is leading the weaning please 🙏🏼. I’m heartbroken as I wanted to continue until he was at least 2 for his health and wellbeing.

My son self-weaned but my experience is slightly different because I’m pregnant and I read that it can change the taste of the milk and also affect supply. He also became unwell at nursery so it could have been a combination of factors that hit at the same time. He gradually started taking less and is now fully off the boob 😢. I had hoped to feed for longer so it was quite an emotional transition and I do still miss it. Although It’s still nice cuddling while he has his morning and evening bottles of whole milk so I’m now in a place of acceptance and in a way I’m glad it’s him that’s made the decision because I would have found it tough otherwise. It’s tough, sending love 🫶💔

I am in a similar situation. My little girl has been reducing her feeds herself and before i had to go back to work she had already stopped all her daytime feeds. She carried on feeding at night, but recently she hasn't been asking every night. So there are a few days a week where she will not feed at all. And the feeds she has are much shorter, often on 1 or 2 minutes. I love it when I get the occasional 5 minute feed x

My son self weaned at 11 months and as much as I tried he didn’t want it anymore, I was heartbroken but now that my hormones are back to normal I feel a lot more normal as well. he shows me affection on different ways now (hugs, sits on my lap while reading etc) and it’s so adorable 🥰😊 he’s a great little eater and also self weaned from night feeds at 8 months

@Dorina thank you for sharing! Mine also night weaned at 8 months why won’t they slow down lol - independent dudes 🥲x

I know, I still miss it sometimes and now all my milk dried up too 🥺
