How to know labor is near?

Just looking for experiences/guesses! I made 38 weeks today. My doctor doesn’t want me going past 39 weeks, and we are trying for a VBAC. I lost my bloody show and mucus plug between last night and this morning. When I had a cervical check yesterday before I lost my mucus plug, I was 1cm dilated. I’ve been nauseated, crampy, and a bit emotional since losing it. Still no signs of contractions or water breaking. All of this is new to me, as my daughter was a failed induction at 39w4d and I never had these symptoms. How likely is it that I will go into labor within the next week?

It could be possible but also could be a bit further down the road... my first, I was dilated to a 3 for about 2 weeks before being induced... Mucus plugs can regrow and are not a reliable tell of labor. I would say keep track of the cramping because some feel that towards the start of their labor, but make sure you are staying hydrated because that can sometimes cause the cramping and nausea, too...

@Sareena even if it’s bloody show too? I had a good bit of brighter red in it.

I know some people who had a bloody show, and they didn't go into labor for about 2 weeks. I also know some who had a bloody show and went into labor hours later... So that is just not one of the signs I rely on

When I had this happen I went into labor 1-2 days later

I had nothing, didn’t lose plug, didn’t have a bloody show, waters didn’t break, just randomly started getting contractions on a Saturday evening

@Amanda I hope that’s the case for me! I really don’t want an induction or another csection.

It sounds like you’re in early labor (per my Doula). Like you all these symptoms are new to me because I was induced with both of my children. I saw bloody show yesterday, between yesterday and today I’ve been loosing my mucus plug (lot). This morning I was cramping all day on and off, 1hr straight at one point 10mins apart. Felt nausea all evening yesterday. You could be closer than you think.

Just wanted to update and say we had him this morning all natural!
