@Nikki , what a great question! I see self-care as any intentional action that supports our physical, mental, or emotional well-being. Breathing itself is a form of self-care because if we were to stop breathing, our physical well-being would quickly end! Deep breathing, in particular, is a powerful type of self-care because it directly impacts both body and mind, creating a sense of calm and relaxation - by choosing to take some deep breaths you are intentionally taking an action to support your well-being (and that is self-care). Moreover, what’s fantastic about deep breathing is that it’s always available to us. It’s free, quick, and incredibly effective. A really lovely way to practice self-care and boost our mood! I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any follow up questions!
I find breathing is a helpful exercise to bring my mood back to baseline but don’t see it as a form of self care. Why is breathing deemed a self care activity?
