Engorged breasts

Hi all I’m needing some advice please as to sure what to do a I keep getting different advice. My little girl is 6 weeks old and has been having expressed breast milk, however I made the decision to switch to formula due to having issues and personal reasons. My health visitor said if I want to stop BF then just stop, however there was no advice or guidance what to do about my breasts becoming engorged and incredibly painful. I’ve tried a hot bath and massage, I’ve tried expressing a little to make the breasts soft and cold compress with pain relief however my breasts are still engorged and that painful it’s bringing me to tears. I’m wearing breast pads to help with the leaking as well but my on breast is completely saturated in milk as I’ve woken to feed my little one. Has anyone ever experienced this and have any tips on what I can do please? Apologies for it being long winded.

No experience on this but trying to help. If you are able to buy a breast pump that is wearable it may help. That way you can still give your baby breast milk if that is what you want. I have a combo fed baby when I cannot breast feed I pump to relieve pain even though most times I pump and dump (solely for the fact I am forgetful when I was storing it) and that helped me a lot

Haven’t personally been through this but some things I’ve heard of to help are: Relieve a little big by hand expressing but do not empty the breast otherwise it will tell your body to produce more. Cold Cabbage leaves in the bra help provide relief and also reduce the amount produced. It will take time for your body to realise it doesn’t need to produce anymore.

Sudafed can reduce your supply, and I would pump or hand express just enough to relieve the pressure x
