Another definition of gay

How many people here know that “gay” means happy, bright, merry? Not that I’m a homophobic, but just wanted to see as I’ve seen some comments online on a nursery rhyme that has the word “gay” in it and people just instantly go “Yes for the LGBTQ+ community” when it has nothing to do with that 😅 My daughter is learning at her nursery as well, it’s all 5 little leaves, and it goes “5 little leaves so bright and gay…” In the UK, the word is still used in place for “happy”, it’s not that commonly used anymore but there are people that do use it. So just wondering if everyone is also teaching their kids another definition to the word “gay” to sort raise more positivity around the term as well. If someone is gay it just means they’re happy 😀 (not to use it interchangeably but you know what I mean, hopefully 😆)

The definitions of some words change over time depending on their usage

I'm in the UK I have never in my life heard someone refer to something or someone as being gay other than in the homosexual meaning. I know it is another word for happy but I've never heard anyone use it in that context

@Megan just because you’ve never heard anyone used it before doesn’t mean no one is. Do you know everyone in the UK? We don’t even know each other and we both live here.

Lol calm down
