Breast feeding question

So my question is how do you know your baby drank enough from the breast? So a little background… my little girl turned 1 month yesterday (Friday) and it was the first time I got her to latch and feed from me. This was not for lack of trying beforehand. My little girl was born with a severe upper lip tie and a tongue tie, so we had those cut at 2 weeks, and she was able to latch after that but wouldn’t feed. She didn’t know how to stay on the boob. Then I met with a lactation consultant to see what was up. Basically my little girl has all the capabilities to breastfeed but was confused on my nipple vs the nipple of a bottle. The consultant recommended nipple shields so I order some and was able to try them out yesterday. And she finally latched and drank. And then I tried again today and we had a very successful latch and drinking session. However I wasn’t sure she drank enough. With a bottle you can see how much they are drinking, but with the boob I went by cues hoping they were enough. She started getting super sleepy looking and suckling stopped. Her hands were also looser and she didn’t try to suck on my finger. Are those indicators? Will she let me know if she needs more when the time comes? And will my breasts produce the milk needed if she want more later? I feel silly asking these things but from the beginning I never had her feeding from me because she couldn’t, now she can I’m not sure I’ve done all the right things. Any advice?

Professionals have always said to me that breastfed babies are good at knowing when they're full. And they are good at showing when they want more, like head turning with mouth open. Also bottle fed babies drink more than breastfed because mummy milk is more exact, not needing much to satisfy needs. And mummy milk is digested very quickly as it has no filler. So my baby was every 2 hours until 6 months when he started food, and he's still frequent now at 9. When I give him a bottle he's done after about 4 ounces but that isn't much for a bottle fed baby, but fine for a breastfed baby xx

@Hannah I’ve been pumping and feeding her my milk that way since birth. She normally drinks about 3.5-4 oz even from a bottle. I don’t want to over feed her by offering her a bottle too soon after getting milk from the boob because unfortunately I can’t fully breastfeed every time she has to eat. Like should i stick to the feeding times we've been doing? we go about 2.5 hours and at night we stretch it to about 3. thank you btw for the response!

I can't really say what's best for baby, can only say what I've done. I think she would stop when she's full, or just sick out if she's over full which my baby did often. If that's when she shows cues then follow her lead. Possibly bottle feed then breast after which she can just latch and not over fill. Wish I could be more help

@Erin I’m not an expert but from what you say it sounds like what you’re doing is fine stick to your normal feeds of around 2.5-3 hours
