Literally anything, it’s a card and it doesn’t check. They say fruit and veg but it doesn’t matter really. Also can use as much as you want on it
@Katie louise so we should all just abuse it 🤔
@Lauryn you can’t really abuse it because you only get a certain amount. But if we are entitled to it then you can use it for your shopping , don’t really see what the big issue is, I didn’t realise you had to do two different transactions one for the fruit and veg and one for your other shopping so I just had to use it on the transactions which just got taken off the shopping bill then I paid the rest on card. Dunno what the problem is haha.
@Katie louise the problem is that it’s there for specific reasons and if people abuse it then eventually it will be taken away. If they suspect you are abusing it they can stop it too. There is a list of what you can use it for so no you can’t just ‘use it for your shopping’ it isn’t rocket science. I’m very grateful to receive it so don’t agree with abusing the system
You literally just tap it , it’s like an ordinary card. EVERYONE will buy at least wipes and nappies so no matter what it’s going towards something for the baby. If you call £16 ( before born) or £32 ( after being born) a month abusing it then that’s your opinion. My opinion is we are all parents and all winging it buying stuff for our families and babies as long as it’s going towards something then I don’t see the issue. There is people out there having to steal formula and nappies as they just can’t afford it so I really don’t care what your send your healthy start card on as long as you can feed and have things for your baby is what I care about. And anyway a lot of people buy fruit and veg anyway or formula and you can use it for formula 🤷♀️
Is anyone entitled to this?
@Keeley here is the website - https://www.healthystart.nhs.uk/how-to-apply/ Will tell you if you are or not! :)
@Katie louise I know how you use it but there is literally a list that tells you what you can spend it on 😅 I spend mine on my baby’s formula.
@Katie louise thank you x
I buy oat milk for myself and few other healthy bits as baby isn’t here yet but I don’t see anything wrong with using it towards your food shopping, I’d understand if people were using it towards buy alcohol or cigarettes but using it for food shopping shouldn’t be a problem
I just used it for day to day groceries
@Kash it’s coming back in production now , they had a shortage but the email said by start of December it should be back in supermarkets!
Now now girls 😂 Thank you for the replies, was just wondering as everything is so expensive these days and I’m thinking bottles, nappies, dummies. I’m not going to use it on alcohol or cigs.. anybody that does doesn’t deserve one. If we can use it for anything then this is helpful. Thank you.
@Lauryn my issue with this is that my milk was on subscription for £66 a month and therefore I used the card to buy meat and food for my son, the things I bought weren’t on the card but milk would be but I just did it the opposite way.

@Chani I don’t make the rules 🤷🏼♀️
I know I was just communicating with you
@Chani sorry, I have had a very rough day and struggling mentally ❤️ I understand completely what you are saying and to me that is fair enough I just feel some people a system that we are very fortunate to have. My baby now has to have prescription milk so I will be spending mine on milk, fruit and veg for myself ☺️
There is a list on the healthy start website of what you can buy. It’s basically just milk, fruit and vegetables
