Taking away the bottle

Why do we have to take away the bottle? Why is it bad? And do we switch to a sippy cup and why?

They aren't great for oral development as they get older, especially if they have them overnight! They can also lead to a child drinking more milk than necessary/not eating enough solid foods. And they can affect speech development. Hard spout sippy cups are also bad for oral development; soft spout, straw, or cups that mimic an open cup like the munchkin 360 are recommended. We like all the munchkin products; the 360, soft spouted cups, and weighted straw cups.

Bottle syndrome, my son was 2 in August and just had to get temporary fillings for decay caused by the bottle. If you give them a bottle and brush teeth after they finish it should be fine though

@Agnes not really fine because it’s not good for oral development

@Danett that will be her choice to make then 🤷🏻‍♀️

I give him a bottle every night before bed and the brush teeth afterwards. I am confused so is having a sippy cup not the same as a bottle in terms of oral development?

@Asheya I don't understand the science but no, sippies are recommended and better than bottles. To transition we put (less than usual) warmed milk in a soft spout sippy and kept the same routine then after 2 weeks decreased and after a month took away the milk altogether
