That does sound slightly delayed. At 2 they are "supposed to" be saying 50 words including signs. I would certainly be looking into speech therapy options. There are also books and videos that are designed to help too.
@Anna I think at 2 they are supposed to be saying min 50 to avoid referral. Usually it’s around 100-200. I would speak to a HV.
@Charlotte very helpful, thanks for sharing!
My son is 2 in December too and we called the HV recently about his speech (he says less words than your little girl). I told them he is very vocal despite not using actual words, understands a lot of what we're saying to him, points to things in books, can identify colours and such, and doesn't have a problem with his hearing, and they said they weren't concerned. They said generally it's not regarded as an issue until 2.5 years old. Just a heads up If you do call the HV! As I'd already seen a lot of posts on here saying the same thing but just wanted to be sure myself 😊
Until my daughter was 2.5 she weren’t really saying much either and I’d had her ears checked out to see if she couldn’t hear etc but she had selective hearing and chose when to respond etc. But now she just doesn’t stop chatting. You could contact the HV or just wait a couple months and see if that helps xx
I found once my son turned 2 his speech came on loads. He went from single words or a couple together to pretty much full sentences within a couple of months. X
My son is delayed in speech. I’m starting to think his ear infection he had in the summer has something to do with it because he lost words too since He is repeating a lot more and says the phrase “there it is!” Or “there he is” when looking for toys or our dog He says Thank you clearly and says kitchen when he wants a snack (he used to say snack) He is in speech therapy
