Seeing a lot of voter regret in regards to some hot topics of concern

There are many posts and videos of people regretting their support of Trump this election. I spoke with a fellow mom tonight at gymnastics who voiced to me how much she regretted her vote. We were discussing IEPs and she told me she actually did not realize (until a family member showed her) that getting rid of the DOE would extinguish her son’s IEP and cut off his access to OT/PT in and outside of school. She cannot homeschool, she can’t afford private schools…but even if she could, they do not provide the resources he needs. As a single, working parent, she fully relies on the school to manage his care. She also expressed she is very worried that if he does repeal The Affordable Care Act, because of his pre-existing genetic disorder, he would have zero option for insurance coverage in a privatized market. Not only does he need regular care, but he has a trach and necessary meds/equipment that cost thousands which she wouldn’t have… It seems like there has been a lot of confusion on some important topics. It was definitely implied to conservatives that all of the controversy involving gender, critical race theory and the potential “threat” of it being incorporated in curriculums could be eliminated by doing away with the DOE…”power given to the states”…but the DOE has nothing to do with curriculum, the states do…also, without the DOE, constitutional rights do not apply…states can incorporate whatever they want or prevent what they don’t want in their schools. Additionally, all federal programs for children with disabilities would be gone…extensive programs…free lunch…Headstart….among other benefits…were you aware of this when voting??

I’m just here to follow

I’m really wanting some input here damnit haha

@Tiff they take the i.e.ps away we screwed.

@Tiff lmao I work in policy and I vote for policies that will benefit me AND my community based on facts I wish I could give you insight lol because I don’t understand either

@Tiff I'm a Canadian Trump hater so I am of zero use here lol. Just want to see what the response is

@Asha Right?? I’m so confused! If their big concern are controversial topics they think “shouldn’t be allowed in school”, the only unanimous way to handle that from the scope of the administration would be to create a federal ban to prevent sex education or CRT for example, but they want to get rid of the federal department that has that power? So they would have no way of getting that accomplished because the states would be able to swing right and left on curriculum depending on state leaders in temporary positions? I’m lost lol

Honestly yes. I knew and anyone that lived through the first trump election should know his positions on schools and resources is to cut them. It was one of the main reasons I didn’t vote for trump in either of the elections. My husband is a trump supporter and I ALWAYS throw the education of things in his face.

In the UK here so my opinion is probably void but I'm gonna say it anyway. I don't understand how any woman could cast a vote for a rapist. 🙃 He's a disgusting vile human being, if he was an ordinary bloke he'd be behind bars now. He could have the best and most appealing manifesto (he obviously doesn't 😂) and I STILL wouldn't waste my vote to put that oxygen thief in that house!

Yes I was aware. My kids are very privileged, have all the resources in the world, go to private school. But as a decent human being and a MOTHER I could never take away these things from others. It would make me physically sick.

It might be too early for people to realize what they did. But a lot will regret it. And I’m here for it, bc fuck them. W They were warned. Have you seen some of his cabinet picks? He doesn’t drain the swamp, he assigns his own 🤮

So many people claim to ‘do their research’ but I think the majority just vote on a very surface level - based on emotion/ instinct, attention grabbing headlines and catchy one-liners. Would be interesting to see an anonymous voting system where you pick the key policies and it submits your vote based on these. Voting shouldn’t just be a personality contest.

@Sorrel That would be so interesting!! I would love to see how that goes! It would definitely disintegrate the two party system unless it was based on percentages of weight towards right or left based on individual policies.

@Tiff yes like a ranked voting system. Not sure how it’d work but think it’d be interesting! Somethings got to shake up the current system! I’ve seen quizzes/ tools that have policy information like this to help people decide how to vote but I imagine the people using them aren’t the ones just voting based on catchphrases anyway!

@Sorrel that's such a good idea! I think that mentality contributed to why the UK had so many Reform voters. Everyone warmed to Nigel Farage during his stint in I'm a Celeb.. and I genuinely believe those who wasn't sure who to vote for just went "Oh that Nigel Farage is a decent bloke, let's vote for him" 😂🤦‍♀️ Trump giving him a special mention in his speech was alarming to me.. 🙃

This pisses me off to no end. Why tf did you not do your research BEFORE voting for someone who TOLD US he is going to destroy the country in every conceivable way. I don't feel bad for these voters in any way. They had 8 years to recognize that he's an incredibly dangerous person and it was obvious since the beginning.

Oh well they get what they get. No crying on my shoulder. I’m so f***** pissed , it’s too late now Karen!

Well… I work health policy and we are definitely in for a storm. Crazy thing is Speech/OT/PT already have cuts that are pending a bill in congress right now. So I’m currently starting to shut things off…. We were waiting because had the election went the other way we were sure those services would be safe.

I’m always amazed that people vote in their on self interest vs the betterment of everyone

@Symone that’s terrible 😞. Why the cuts? What bill?

@Symone I have been saying this forever!

@Tiff right they are cut from telehealth effective January unless the telehealth modernization bill is signed. It’s been sitting at congress since September. Our therapists were doing telehealth while kiddos where at school so we are scaling back and requiring in person appointments.

@MJ_xo bwhahaha nottt. I'd leave fl in a heart beat

@Magen 🤣🤣🤣 I posted it on fb and people were confused about it being real. Shows how easy people get swayed

@MJ_xo naw they just too stupid high to realize hahaha 😆

@Magen yes. Dumb as hell

I didn’t vote Trump. Trump is a vile soulless human being and he sewed SO MUCH disinformation about Kamala Harris and people BELIEVED HIM. THE CRIMINAL. Who was caught LYINGGGG 😡😡😡

This is not surprised, it was expected to happen. He isn’t taking over presidency until Jan 20th. And he is already making and demanding changes! People knew. But they didn’t want to listen. All they care was, lowering inflation, cheaper gas, etc. But I agree with that comment. How can you vote for a rapist, someone who wants to take women’s abortion rights, school funding etc. did we forget all the damage was made on his first term? But it is what it is, I’m sure at the end of his term people will turn democrats again. And won’t be happy with their choices either. So we can’t ever win.
