Nursery

This might sound stupid but what questions should I be asking nurseries when looking to find one? I tend to go off of my intuition and the feel I get of the place when there but they asked me what questions I had and I came up with blanks! I asked about how they deal with children misbehaving, what their views on screen times are and what a typical day looks like but am I missing anything? I really feel like I am but don't know what!

They've always told me so much during the tour, that the only questions I ended up asking where logistical, like hours, funded hours etc 😅

I have been asking if they have any online devices/apps for communication. If they will administer meditation.

Sickness policy is a good one as my nursery didn't provide it so I kept having to ask.

I asked questions based on what I saw and what they said on their way around. Funding, hours etc are so helpful to know ASAP though!

How they approach naps (I.e. do they force them onto a schedule or can they nap when they need? How are they put down for naps/do they respect each baby’s sleep preference or are they all just left in a cot/to scream?) Settling in sessions - how many do you get, how long do they last, can you be there for them? If they provide food is that all meals and snacks? They’re questions I wished I had asked!

Thank you everyone that's really helpful!x

I asked about qualifications the staff have too, how long they've been there (sometimes places have a lot of staff turnover which doesn't always look good), ask about first aid too and if there are specific people or if everyone is trained, key workers, safety of the children (passwords on collection or other forms of security - fobbed doors etc) ofsted/estyn reports too
