My son always spit up the enfamil Brand. Our suggested to Nova Ferrum brand and he did much better with it. Now using it for my 7 month old

@Kirsty u give 1ml?

Have her checked for g6pd and feed her only foods that are rich in iron and not ultra processed. That’s how me and my son have to eat cause processed foods kills all the iron and iron reserves in our body. My doctor thought it was incredible that I was able to raise our iron levels to normal.

@Shantell what foods did u guys eat? And I heard liver is really good for iron. Multivitamin Cheerios have good amount of iron in them are they good to give?

Not the cheerios cause they are processed and the iron is burned out of them in the process of making them. Leafy green vegetables, all fresh vegetables really, and meats. No canned vegetables cause they have no nutrients.

Beans and leafy greens. My LO raised her iron on beans alone. I get the big bag and Costco and throw them in the crockpot. We are vegetarian so my doc was concerned but her iron levels never dropped once we started adding in beans to her diet a couple times a week.

@Emily what kind of beans please?

@Jennet💐 really all of them, but the darker the bean the higher the iron benefit. I get them in bulk dry. And pop them in the crockpot for 4 hours with some water and salt and then we have all week.

I’m a pediatric dietitian. I like the NovaFerrum version because they’re flavored. It would be great to give it mixed with a bite of applesauce or similar vitamin C containing fruits. It’ll help with absorption of the iron. Also, no dairy products an hour or so before or after the iron because the calcium in the dairy products binds the iron and decreases absorption. Of you have an applesauce pouch, you can either squeeze a bit out or after she takes a sip, you can squeeze the iron drop in using the dropper and massage the pouch to mix it up.

Low iron is incredibly common and I wouldn’t be concerned about the genetic diagnosis mentioned before unless your pediatrician is concerned. As long as you keep some iron rich foods in her diet, and do the supplement for a little while, she’ll be totally fine. Definitely incorporate some of the iron fortified foods that are age appropriate like Cheerios. That would be a great source of iron!
