Reduced movements?

I’ve been experiencing reduced movements for a few weeks now, I’ve already been to the maternity assessment unit and they monitored me. Baby’s heartbeat was strong and was kicking whilst on the machine (happens every time). I’m now 39+5 days and don’t particularly want to be induced but I can’t feel her move as much. Is this normal? Is it just the end of pregnancy? Last time I went they said they’d induce me but I don’t want them to do that if not absolutely necessary. Any advice please x

No it's not normal to feel less movement

I’d go to triage anyway for the reassurance and just see what they say, absolutely don’t have to accept the induction but at least if you go you’ll have a clearer picture of her well being and you can make an informed choice about what to do xx

I had the same and went in multiple times. My midewife was great and said it is just standard practice to offer induction after more than one visit for reduced movement at this stage. She recommended I ask if there were actually any concern/ medical reason for offering induction in my particular case and if not I was perfectly ok to decline the induction. It’s just an offer not a recommendation a lot of the time she said. Good luck!

I’m 40+5 and went in for reduced movements at 40+2, having had ctg and scan to check placenta etc (and baby girl’s movements being more back to a rhythm again now), everything seems to be ok but the hospital have been putting a LOT of pressure on me to induce. I’ve got an induction booked for next weds but I’m going to try to hold out til then. I can relate so much, it’s frustrating and worrying - and then I feel like all the anxiety is also stopping me get into labour mode 🫠 Just trying to go with the flow x

I went in last Sunday at 37+6 for reduced movement and got induced it was the first time. She came out with cord wrapped around her. I would say induction isn’t what I wanted but if I didn’t she wouldn’t get here safely x

@Ronnie had they done and scan beforehand? They haven’t offered a scan to me and I’m worried that that’s the case for me too x

@Eliza I messaged you

I went in at 39 weeks as it felt reduced. He was 9lb when born at 39+4 I defo feel he had a lot less room to move around x

Always go in for reduced movement. Also you never have to say yes to an induction. They may offer it because that’s just what they do, but if baby is healthy and happy after they’ve checked out movements, you can 100% just say no

@Eliza you should definitely push for a scan! I wasn’t happy with movement after monitoring so we’ve had two extra scans. They did it same afternoon after monitoring. They can then check the cord, placenta and blood flow to brain etc so you’re happy with your decision on induction or not.

With my first pregnancy I waited with reduced movement and when I went in the doctor told me off for not going in sooner, even though everything was okay. She said you should never delay. It’s probably fine but better to be checked! I understand what you mean with being induced but ask them what the risks are if you are not and if there are any other options (use BRAIN). X
