Baby behaviour

My little one is 5 months old and generally a happy baby. However, over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that he cries whenever someone else, like my friends or neighbors, tries to hold him or talk to him. He goes to baby classes and does fine there, but this behavior of not wanting anyone else to hold him has me concerned. I’m not sure if this is just a phase or if there’s something wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.

My first was like this, he was fine being held by others until about 2 months old then it changed to only having us hold him! He was just a shy boy. It even took him a while to get used to grandparents. But once he started remembering people he sees a lot it’s fine. And now he’s 2, he’s still fairly shy but will happily join in when he goes to classes etc. And he’s fine at nursery. He’s grown in confidence loads. Every child is different, it’s just their temperament. Nothing to be concerned about though! He may grow out of it quickly or may prefer the comfort of people he knows for a while. You may just have to do all the cuddles for a while!! Xx

They can get like this when going through a leap

Mine’s exactly the same, she’s fine with me or daddy, but she’s got to the stage where if I pass her to anyone else she’ll cry. It’s a normal part of development. He’s beginning to recognise that you are different people but you’re his primary caregiver so he wants to be close to you. There will be lots of peaks of separation anxiety over the first couple of years.
