This is such a normal but definitely annoying behavior where the food now becomes a spoon. I have no answers but I can tell you my 2.5 year old does occasionally take bites here and there or she’ll be completely feral and eat the sauce with a spoon or her fingers.
I think its funny you describe her as "feral" because that's how I feel about mine!! Totally feral.
I’ve started to hold off on any sauces unless my kiddo stops eating her meal before it’s finished 😅 inevitably she stops, I offer it again with the sauce, then she finishes it and tries to use her hands for the rest of the sauce 😬 it doesn’t matter how little sauce is left, she’ll wipe her whole hand where the sauce was until she gets it cleaner than it came out the dishwasher
For the same reason i stopped giving her sauces, I thought I would reintroduce it later 😁
That's exactly her behavior. Gimme that dip dip all over her hands and licking it off! Eww gooey babies!! Haha!
Mine won't eat sauce
If it's an issue for you why keep giving her sauce ? Or what if you were to make a healthy sauce instead that you won't mind her eating lots of ?
Just don’t give her ketchup or other condiments then
I’ve been a nanny for 9 years and what I’ve done with my sauce loving kids in the past is only giving them between a dime and quarter sized amount and letting them know they only have three small refills. When they finish the sauce they can ask for more but only three times and they’re really not large amounts (like stated before). After that I put the condiment away and it’s like that with every sauce. Eventually they just know that they only get a little and it’s just an added condiment. The kids have never given me problems after instilling this.
I got my kid doing it with yoghurt or tzatziki or hummus before I introduced her to ketchup. Now she wants ketchup because we eat it with fries too (and she wants everything mummy and daddy eat) but she was more than happy with yoghurt and then it didn’t matter if she licked it off or not because yoghurt has a lot of nutritional value compared to ketchup or mayo. But I’ve totally seen her eat a small jar of mayo in France 😂 It got easier as my daughter got older… I’d say 2.5… where she was able to really understand the dip was to flavour what she was already eating. Plus side it’s got me to eat less sauce and I’m the real culprit of the family 😂
She ate a whole jar of mayonnaise? That's priceless. Somebody on social media suggested I try pickle and peanut butter sandwiches but I don't know about that!!
I have that issue to with my daughter. She loves strawberry sauce. I use that for pancakes/waffles. She just like dipping and kicking it off. Sometimes I have to cut smaller pieces and put it to her month to feed her. Then she will eat it. But that starting to not work for me. Terrible 2 are here.
