Anyone deemed high risk

Has anyone been told they are high risk due to their age (39) and conceiving via IVF? I have been told this today and can’t find any evidence to support it.

Ive been put on a pathway for additional growth scans and will see a consultant, but they haven't said I'm high risk. When I spoke to my midwife the other day she said that the IVF doesn't matter Once you're pregnant you're pregnant, and they don't worry about how it happened. But it feels like conflicting messages

Because there is very little evidence to support it. You can decline being put on that pathway and ask for regular midwife appts.

Yes - it puts you at a slightly higher risk of problems with your placenta, so less likely that they will let you go to your due date - they would have delivered at 39w if she hadn't of come early. It's just a few extra growth scans to check on bubs, and they had me take aspirin after my 12w scan. Also had to have a few more clexane injections after c section. It was good that I did have extra appts otherwise wouldn't have picked up my preeclampsia, but really nothing to worry about.

I was consultant led due to IVF, but I was 29 when I got pregnant. Its not true that once you're pregnant it doesn't matter how you got there, there's actually a fair few increased risk factors in IVF, even if they're not well understood or studied we know there are increased risks so if it's something you want to look at the information is there. For example, I had a succenturiate placenta which is more common in IVF and increases the risk of retained placenta and post partum haemorrhage. I did have a retained placenta but luckily was having a planned c section so they could stick their hand in and scoop it out. Also had more than ideal blood loss due to the two placenta wounds, leaving double the size wound than normal, which of course led to more bleeding.

Ivf is irrelevant once pregnant- you may be deemed high risk due to other factors. Has something been flagged on a blood test or on your 12 or 20 week scan?

@Francesca it’s actually not. I gave birth in August and was consultant lead and induced on my due date due to having an IVF pregnancy. Apparently it is more likely for IVF mums to have issues with the placenta, particularly if overdue.

@Dee Oh wow maybe it’s trust dependent and a bit of postcode thing. That’s good you had extra scans from 12 weeks even though everything was totally fine on your scans!

@Francesca oh 100%. I actually changed hospitals part way through my pregnancy (first one had an awful CQC report). First hospital was not fussed at all about it being an IVF pregnancy and the second took it very seriously.
