I probably would have left. Made sure my son is okay. But not without loudly saying ' some people don't have ANY HOME TRAINING!'
I would've done exactly what you did, great job teaching de-escalation. I typically tell my son "they don't want to play, let's leave them alone" and continue to use the playground but avoid that kid.
I'd have stepped in to protect my child if she went to do it a 2nd time and had words with whoever was meant to be supervising the child that they need to stay closer to intervene as another child may retaliate and do worse back

Personally I wouldn't of said anything unless it happened a second time. But if my LO ever does anything like that (although never that extreme!) I always say sorry and then activity keep him away from that kid. Cuz obviously they are very impulsive at this age and things happen but that adult should of said something. I hope your little one is okay! X
