Blood tinged mucus

My 10 day old has been straining to have a poo tonight he’s not had one today or yesterday and there was a tiny bit of orange/bloody mucus (no poo) would you be concerned ? What could cause this? Other than this he is very settled and drinking his milk fine!

Call your midwife and ask them about it, in my area they have a 24 hour line so I’m sure yours do too (if in doubt ring the hospital you had the baby at and ask). It’s probably nothing if your baby is otherwise fine, but definitely worth asking about!

Aww bless him. It could be from straining as that’s a really hard poo for a 10 day old baby. At that age it should be almost like a korma consistency. Maybe ring the doctor and ask for some stool softener if they can give him it due to his age but he is definitely constipated bless him. Is he drinking plenty?x

Call on helpline as your baby should get checked because its not normal for a 10 days old baby

Hello, this happened to my son. He's constantly constipated and straining (now on medication for it) and he had blood in his poop a few times and the drs and midwives said its a wee tear on his bum and to keep it as clean as possible and put cream on it. It was called anal fissure. But it is best getting it looked at

It's probably an anal fissure as the hard poop has caused a tiny tear I would however speak to a health care professional as that is very hard poo for a newborn. X
