The gel doesn’t really start labor it only ripens your cervix so 9 times out of 10 you’ll need more intervention and inductions methods. You should discuss with your doctor a birth plan and understand the risks with each induction methods. The gel might get you to 2cm but that’s about it. So it sounds like they will do interventions as labor progresses. Induction can go very well but they increase chances of a cesarean unfortunately. I would look into a membrane sweep (way less risks) and the foley ball that has only 1 inflated balloon (not the one with 2) and discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits. I personally had 2 inductions for medical reasons and they went relatively well but that’s because I was able to advocate for myself and was educated on everything (I’m a doula). You can build a solid birth plan for an induction that will decrease the chances of an emergency cesarean
@✨Wis 🇭🇹 thanks so much for the advice would you mind if I messaged you please?
@Aimee that’s defo not what I wanted to hear haha but thanks for being honest! Did they not offer to try another method before giving you a c section? I’m terrified xx
I had an induction it started with pessary and then they broke my waters then Pitocin - I know that’s not gel but I just wanted to say my induction went very smoothly and baby arrived perfectly with no meds apart from gas and air. I will say if you want an epidural get the request in quickly cos the pitocin speeds things up and quite often there isn’t time! Best of luck mama, baby will be in your arms soon, however they arrive xxx
@Fay thanks so much. I’m glad it went well for you! I pray I can be induced and have a vaginal delivry 🤞🏻I wonder why I haven’t been offered this type of induction? It’s something I’ll defo be asking and looking into! I’m hoping not to have an epidural either but I’ll have to see how it does! Apparently usually by the time you feel you need one it’s too late anyway🤣 xx
Haha sorry! No, because my waters had already gone prior to going into labour they had more of a concern about baby pooping inside me and infection. I’ve heard plenty of peoples inductions go smoothly if they are induced prior to their waters going! Oh I was crying before I went down 😂 I really didn’t want to end up in a section so it was quite sad for me however the whole induction process wasn’t bad personally I was just against the clock unfortunately - and because I had such a smooth pregnancy I didn’t really research much into sections as I didn’t believe I’d end up in one, I wish I was more informed but unfortunately you just never know what happens in labour 😂 xxx
@Aimee ah okay that makes sense if there was a risk to baby it’s always worth opting for the c section to be carried out, always best to just get baby here safely. Aw girl I can totally understand the crying before hand that would be me too🤣 how was the c section for you? If you don’t mind sharing as this is something I need to consider and look into xx
It’s been more of a mental struggle than a physical one for me, don’t get me wrong - the first two weeks are difficult especially getting in and out of bed - but because I wasn’t a complete emergency I have a nice little neat scar, healing perfectly and I was back to normal activities within 5-6 weeks xx
With my second birth I was induced with the gel. I was given it at 10pm and contractions started immediately. They went on all night. My waters were broken at 7:30 the next morning and my labour progressed. I gave birth at 11.19am naturally so it is possible. I am aware though that this isn't always the case, I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Good luck!
I was induced and it took 2 days but I had a natural labour. No drip, no c section.
Not what you want to hear, but please do remember everyone is different and so is their scenarios! My waters went at 38w, I was induced with the gel at midnight and then went on the drip the next morning I did begin dilating but it wasn’t happening as quick as the hospital would like. Ended up in a section due to failure to progress xx
