Your milk might be high lipase. Have you tried some? If it tastes a bit soapy then it’s likely high lipase. Google what to do with high lipase in expressed milk.
@Stephanie Did it just take your son a little while to get us to it? Did anything help for you? I read to mix it 1:1 with fresh and she still wasn't having it. I've tried to donate before and most places won't take it because they only supply for nicu. If you know somewhere else I should consider, please let me know!
I've mixed with fresh before and it helped but he eventually got used to it. We didn't really struggle with it. Like I said though, if you'd taste soapy due to high lipase, I'd look online for other options (that wasn't my case). For donations, it varies a lot depending on the location so I'd look into your local banks. I've seen women shelters and churches to be a bit more lenient with their requirements. Worst hypothesis I've seen moms donate it in Buy Nothing groups.
I've personally gotten lots of breast milk from Facebook groups, they donate a lot there
I mixed fresh with frozen milk so the taste it better.
@Antonia what ratio have you used for mixing that has worked for you?
Have you tried some of the milk yourself? For some moms, once their milk freezes, it tastes like soap and baby won't take it. Mine tastes a bit like formula but my son would still take it despite not loving it at first. I've seen suggestions of adding a tiny little bit of alcohol-free vanilla extract to better the taste until baby gets used to the taste but never tried it myself. Ultimately, if baby won't take to the frozen milk at all, please consider donating or even selling it.
