Membrane sweep

38+1 weeks and having a sweep tomorrow, baby is engaged, any tips on anything else I can do to induce labour? Or anyone’s experiences of having a sweep before? (First time mum)

If you haven't already, get a birthing/gym ball. After your sweep get bouncing and swaying like no tomorrow, if that's not an option keep active. Sweeps can be really uncomfortable, I've had 2. One was really painful and the other was just discomfort. All I can recommend for that is just breathe through it, relax and if you're on good terms with your midwife or have someone in the room with you, talk to them/joke around, anything to lighten the situation and take your mind off it a bit. Good luck! X

Good luck! Is there a reason you're having a sweep so early? No experience of the sweep - I didn't have one last time and gave birth at 41+2 (after having a curry the night before 🤣)

Good luck 🤞🏽 I’ve got mine on Thursday I’ll be 38+4 & feeling anxious about it but hoping it does work, also first time mum. Let us know how it goes 😊xx

I had a sweep at 40+5 with my first pregnancy and went into labour afterwards - baby born 40+6 xx

@Jenny I declined induction and want to ideally go naturally, I have a section booked so they said to boost my chances of going natural they’ll offer sweeps first 🤞🏼 haha I will have to order a curry!

@Sophie Ah thank you, it was uncomfortable but nothing you can’t tolerate without relaxing & deep breaths. I have had worse smears etc, good luck you will be fine xx

Ah that’s good, Thank you for letting me know! Well let’s hope it works & you get to meet your baby very soon 😊🤞🏽

Just to update anyone, I had my sweep Tuesday 10am and had my little girl yesterday 15:26. Born 38 weeks + 2. 6 lb 12 oz ❤️

Congratulations!! I hope you're both doing well💙

Congrats! 💖
