Weaning support

So my baby boy turned 6m on Sunday I had a lot of anxiety about weaning so to ease me into it we’ve started on the Ella’s kitchen pouches instead of BLW We’ve tried him on Carrot Parsnip and apple Blueberry banana and apple Also trying him on some water daily He just spits it out and looks disgusted My health visitor is rubbish hasn’t really been there to answer questions or help so… Is this normal? Should I just daily keep trying him on flavours until he starts taking an interest? How long should I sit with him and offer him food before I just pack it away and make a bottle- is there a set time I should be sitting with him doing this? 😐

We treat it like a fun activity between bottles rather than a meal. I find our girl is more focused and willing when she’s content. We found the Ella’s pouches with fruit to be quite a punchy flavour and she shuddered at first (I think a lot have a squeeze of lemon in too!) so I made some purées of single vegetables to ease her in, and experience different flavours. From what I’ve read, until they are 1 it’s more about discovery and practice rather than nutrition

Would suggest you try the first taste single taste ones. Keep trying, it can take up to 10 times for them to start liking a new taste. I found the Ella’s kitchen webiste quite helpful too. If you have a Boots Adventage card you will be able to pick up the Ella’s Kitchen First Tastes book for free, which might help too. Good luck 😀!

Weaning at 6 months is all about tastes, getting to know what flavours they like and textures. Intake at this stage really isn’t important, milk should always be offered first as it’s their key source of nutrition 🫶🏻
