Reflux & Constipation

My 8 week old boy has reflux so he is on Infant Gaviscon with his milk HOWEVER this has made him so constipated. He has a laxative but that hasn’t kicked in yet and he is so uncomfortable and possibly in pain all day and wakes so much more in the night straining bless him. Anything else I can do to help him apart from warm bath, belly rubs and bicycle legs? I need to sleep and he needs to poop! 😂💩

Do you have a baby thermometer?

My friends baby was on gaviscon and she would also give him gripe water in-between the gaviscon dosages (2h apart). Check with your doctor if you could try that out too because i dont remember if she asked her doctor or not

We have this right now, it’s awful!! I ended up going hospital, they prescribed paediatric Movical for my girl x

I found carobel is the best for reflux! My gp wouldn’t prescribe at first but went back and finally had it prescribed it’s worked amazing for me and also didn’t cause constipation x

@Kyanna does carobel have to be prescribed by the GP, our pharmacy sells it, and not sure whether to try it or not x

Honestly we went through this the other day. The only thing that worked was stopping gaviscon for the day but then she suffered with the reflux all day. It’s so hard! We now give her both doses of lactose (9am & 9pm) and a gaviscon in every bottle. She struggles to go for a poo still but not as constipated as before

My little one refused to drink the milk with carobel in it. She’s stubborn 🤦🏼‍♀️

My little boy was on gaviscon & he was so constipated, he was crying in pain. I gave him some cooled down boiled water and that seemed to help for a little bit. Ended up taking him off them all together, I don’t really think they helped with the reflux anyway!

@Rebekah Tried stopping Gaviscon but made the reflux too bad and it works well for him. So you give two doses of laxative at once twice a day? X

Have you tried giving an oz of water before a feed? That’s what I done with my little one the doctor said it was fine as long as you didn’t give them too much x

We went to the OOH GP for reflux and they gave us the gaviscon. She said it could cause constipation but she also said she doesn’t like perscribing a laxative because it can give some babies really bad tummy pain. X

@Abbie you can buy it online but they don’t sell it In pharmacies I don’t think, I did have to up a size on bottle teat aswell x
