Living in an apartment vs house with a toddler

Hi mums, Can really use advise/hear your experience if you’ve had anything similar here. We have a 18 month old and both my partner and I have corporate jobs in Melbourne city making it hard for us to live in suburb go into work twice a week and pick and drop bub from childcare. We are considering moving closer to the city suburbs but for our budget we can only afford a 2 bedroom apartment. We don’t know how it will be for our bub growing into a mature toddler phase living in a smaller restricted space. What are the pros and cons in your opinion? I am asking so we make sure we have given it a good thought and weighed our options well before making a decision to move. TIA for your advice and help!

We live in a townhouse in Braybrook and I have been to a penthouse in the Adina in the city and honestly that had more living space than our townhouse does. I would say look in the inner west if you haven’t already. If they are at childcare 5 days a week you probably don’t need much space because they are occupied there most of the time. It would also probably just encourage you to go out more. But we pretty much always have toys all over our living room floor. I’m sure lots of people do it.

Hey there, we live in Southbank with two kids! There’s actually a lot more families around here than I expected. We moved from Toorak about a year ago and I’m surprised by how much more family friendly Southbank is. Pros: everything is so close. We have a library and playground at our doorstep. A new community centre is being built. Daycare is a 5 min walk away. It’s so easy to go anyway and do stuff. We’re always out and about visiting museums, playgrounds, soft play, the aquarium, the markets, etc. we’re hardly at home during the day. Cons: stuck inside when the weather is horrible or the kids are sick. We only discovered docklands since moving here, I think that’s actually better than Southbank, so that’s something to consider too! Feel free to message if you have any questions. I remember being in the same predicament! X

Hi! We have been in the city and the same apartment before bub came along, she is now active at 14 months and starting to walk. We are near flagstaff gardens and will recommend being near a park/open space for toddler to bust it out when needed! Agree with Simone that everything is close by and Docklands is great too!
