6.5 months is so early in the weaning journey. My LG didn’t really get it or enjoy food til more like 8.5 months. It’s a slow build up, tasting, trying and letting them play with/explore it - it’s all helping them to get used to a major adjustment!
I was buzzing last week because he actually ate pasta for the first time. My lo is nearly 10 months. Honestly it's been a slow process for us but I try and just see at as messy play 😂
Thanks guys that really made me calm down😫 can I ask do you guys all do BLW? I wanna do it too but baby only has one tooth and I’m so scared he’ll choke😭😭
We did a mixture of both purées and blw. My LG didn’t get any teeth til nearly 8 months, their gums are hard enough to chomp on anything if prepared as per guidance :) solid starts is really useful to look at prepping food for baby, and definitely look up the difference between gagging and choking, as gagging is a very natural reflex which is pretty scary the first few times it happens but it’s how they learn what size bits of food are to swallow, and they push out bits that are too big. You can always look for a baby first aid course if that helps you, or there’s plenty of videos on YouTube for free. Omelette strips, steamed broccoli or other fingers/spears of veg that have been cooked til soft are great to start with, plus things like baby made snacks, melty sticks, wafers etc.
It's been three weeks, they need to adjust and learn as any other skills. Eating is a skill. They had milk for the last six months they don't know any other tastes or textures, it's pretty and kind of normal that they refuse to eat. It takes time and at least 10 times for a good to be liked or disliked. Keep giving food and he will soon eat ;)
Solid starts is the best tool you will use for BLW. Follow them on insta and download the app. It’s gives amazing examples of how to prepare and serve whole foods for different ages. There are also videos and lots of great and reassuring videos on their instagram on choking and gagging. I use it everyday!!! I am doing a 100 days of weaning challenge on @babyeatslunch if you are interested and how I serve things for baby. I also serve some blended up parts of the meal but I don’t spoon feed her, I give her the spoon to self feed. Solid starts gave me the confidence to pursue BLW! They definitely don’t need teeth xx
I have solid starts the app but only a 7 day free trial! I don’t have social media so can’t follow them or you😫
You dont have to subscribe- you can use it for free!!!
We went a whole month of not opening mouth and trying to force it in and her not wanting anything suddenly 4 weeks later she just opened her mouth and has been eating amazing the last month 🤣
We just do purées and those melty baby crisps at the moment (coming to the end of the first week of weaning) x
Weaning can be really really frustrating! Hang in there! I think the biggest problem is that our expectation is wrong. We expect them to start eating straight away and everything we give them. But in reality until they are 12 months milk is still their number one source of nutrients and my experience with my eldest taught me to be patient and that as long as they also have milk they will not be hungry. Eventually they start eating more. But definitely don’t worry, as 6,5 months is really too soon for a baby to eat big amounts of food.
Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments I think I just need to be patient and remember that babies learn everything for the first time 😫😫
It takes up to 15 times for a baby to accept a new taste. Remember food before 1 is for fun, their main nutrients still come from formula/breastmilk c
