VBAC with group b strep

Does having group b affect my chances at a vbac?? I'm 17 weeks and just tested positive for it and now I have no idea how it'll affect anything. Currently waiting to hear back from my midwife, has anyone tetsed positive but still had a vbac? Dud it affect anything?

I think it would depend on your hospital and provider. I think if you have a c section group b might not matter… I don’t remember so I could completely be wrong. But I thought it comes from the vagina so if you don’t have a vaginal birth it might not be an issue. So depending on how your pregnancy goes and if you aren’t high risk other than that then you might still be able to. But it’s possible they might still suggest one because of it but idk

It didn’t affect anything for me. I was able to vbac just had antibiotics while in labor

Why are they testing you SO early? Testing usually happens between 36-38 weeks. Unless there’s a reason? Which I can’t think of why. But group B won’t affect your vbac chances. What many women don’t know is that we ALL carry group B, you can test positive today and negative tomorrow it’s just a matter of how “active” it is at the time of testing If it’s not a big deal to you, you can decline antibiotics and carry on as normal. You can also ask for a retest idk where you are but in the US they will usually say it doesn’t matter if you retest bc they’ll use the first result anyway which is so dumb. Im more bothered by why they tested you at 17 weeks 🤦🏽‍♀️

Many midwives will also tell you to put garlic up there before the test as it kills the bacteria but again, if you want to put foreign things up there that’s up to you it’s just so wrong that they even do this test lol

I would definitely not decline antibiotics. You want every chance your baby to not get it so I would for sure be getting it

@Gabrielle that's what I was thinking, they might be more keen on a c section to remove the strep risk but then the risk is very small especially if I take antibiotics so I think I'd still feel comfortable pushing for a VBAC?

@Kelsey that's what I wanted to hear 😅

@Jamie it wasn't a routine test at all I got a swab done as I had some kinda infection and we wanted to be sure what it was before treating (yay thrush), just happened to also grow step b so tbh quite glad I did double check!

I was GBS positive with both my babies, first ended in emergency c section room and had a VBAC with my second, they’ll just give you IV antibiotics every 4 hours I think it was until baby is delivered 😊

@Jessica that's reassuring thank you!!
