Booked section but going into labour early

If you have experience of having a section booked but you went into labour early, what did you do? Did you have the c section or did you give birth naturally? I have one booked in 3 weeks time and I will be 39+3 I don’t know what I will do if I go into labour sooner than that as its my second baby 🤔

I went in to labour 8 days before my planned section, when I went in I just let them know I was booked in and that I still wanted one even though it was early. They were happy to put me on the list of the day, so was technically an emergency as wasn't planned but it went really smoothly😊

Yes go into hospital for a check in triage they will admit you for c section if baby isn’t able to be delivered vanginally

This happened to me. I went into labour the day before my planned section. They therefore insisted on waiting for my booked slot, but failed to give me any pain relief while I went to 7 cm. They allowed me to progress too far, and I then needed an emergency c section anyway. My advice would be to advocate for yourself as loudly and forcefully as needed.

My baby was breech and my waters broke a week before my planned c-section. I called the maternity unit, and they told me to come in and they’ll check how far dilated I am. Turns out within 40 mins I was 7cm dilated so I was rushed through. If your waters break/labour starts, just call your maternity unit ASAP.

My second section was booked for 39+3. My first I went into labor just before 38 weeks and knew it would happen again. I did lol exactly 37+6 again just like my first. Basically you call the delivery unit and let them know your in labor and supposed to have a c section. They will probably ask you to drink water, relax for a little, etc to see if it is false labor. If you're actually in labor then you'll go in, they get you admitted and comfy and prep the or. You'll just jump the line for planned surgery and get your section that day (unless you tell them you want to try naturally) Editing to add, if you're before 38 weeks then you have to labor some and show progression in dilation or baby has to show some sort of distress or if your water breaks just because guidelines say that they can't really take the baby out before 38 weeks unless there's a reason

This happened to me with my baby is August. I was scheduled for the 9th and went into labor on the 4th. This was my 3rd csection so no discussion of vbac and I didn't want one anyway. The on call doctor actually offered to stop my contractions so I could go back the next day and have my actual doctor perform my section so that's what we did.

I was 39 weeks pregnant+ 2 days and still didn’t even have my date for my csection as it was a last minute choice. Basically if you go into labour before it is very important that you get the hospital when those contractions start, just incase you end up progressing very quickly because you’ll end up having to have natural. Fortunately but unfortunately my labour lasted 24 hours and they kept me in from 2cm when I first went up the hospital. They was so understaffed that they kept telling me I’d be the next one to go in an hour then 24 hours later I actually had mine at 8-9cm dilated so mine lowkey turned into an emergency. They also wouldn’t let me eat or drink anything or have any pain relief other then gas and air ( which made me feel sick so couldn’t have anything) and they gave me an injection to stop labour and it didn’t work. So just be prepared

@Tanya this !!!

I couldn't give birth naturally due to baby's position so was done as an emergency c section (cat 2)

I went into labour 3 and a half weeks before my due date .. I hadn’t even had my c section date given to me. I was asked if I wanted to try a vaginal birth or if I wanted to see when the next c section slot was .. I asked for my c section and luckily was given it within a few hours x

I was 37 weeks with a scheduled section and I had a c section with my last

My waters broke at 8pm, night before my planned c section and there was a lot of water! I was have contraction within 15 minutes of my waters going. I called the hospital and headed straight there. I was assessed and asked if I wanted to go ahead with my section which I did and my boy was delivered at 1:30am, so 5 and half hrs after my waters broke xx

This happened with my second child I went into labour at 37 weeks, 2 weeks before my scheduled section. I went into hospital to get checked as I lost my mucus plug and was experiencing contractions and she was born via c section about 2 hours after arriving.

@Liv that is really useful to know! I don’t have any medical reasons for now its an elective c section just because of my mental health

@Tabitha oh no sorry you had such a bad experience. This is definitely something I don’t want to happen 😭

Yes. I was booked for week 39 but she came 10 days early. I went into labour at work without realising, I actually called up for observation as I felt no fetal movement. Came in, got plugged in and they got the theatre diary out. She was born that night via a cat 3 section. Still super organised and calm xx

I went into labor 3 days before my scheduled c-section. I'd been having contractions about 3 mins apart when my water broke and when we got to the hospital. I wasnt actively progressing (VBAC was not an option for me) so because of that, I sat around in my room leaking water till ot was closer to do a c-section. I had to wait (try) for the 12 hr mark from when I last ate. I ended up having her 3 days earlier than my scheduled one! My 4th one literally waited till my c-section day. I'd been feeling uncomfortable but nothing glaringly obvious it was contractions. Once they got me all monitored up, I realize I was having contractions. Literally like 2 hrs before my c-section my kiddo started my labor lol still had a c-section!

@Maria I didn't have any medical reason to have one either, I just didn't want a vbac lol that's why I had to labor for a few hours and show progression (I labored in the hospital) thinking back I believe their guideline was water has to break or dilated to at least 3cm to deem it as good to go if you're before that 38 weeks mark. Once you hit 38 weeks then they don't have to wait
