Midwife appointments

Hi ladies, just looking for a bit of advise. I currently go to sandwell hospital antenatal clinic for all my midwife appointments and all my scans. I have never met my midwife who was noted down. I also have never met the same midwife more than once. I have no notes and baby’s heartbeat has not been checked by the midwife at any point however i have friends who are currently pregnant living within dudley nhs trust and they go to there local gp and see the same midwife everytime. They’ve also had heartbeat checks and was given a folder of advice for baby. I’m just over five months but nothing regarding labour, birthing plan or anything at all really has been discussed. I simply just go in they do my carbon monoxide test and then i leave. Is the case for anyone else or have i not been to the right appointments? Just feel a bit lost😊

I have only had one there at the moment, and they only did my carbon monoxide too. I was a little surprised as I thought there would be more to it. I was also told I couldn't get any water to help get my urine sample as they had turned the water machine off 😅 my next appointment isn't until the 1st week of January. I'll almost be 26 weeks, so I'm hoping the appointment is a little more in-depth as I just feel a little left at the moment

@Chelsea yeah this is when mine is too and i’ll be 6 weeks away from maternity leave with no mat b1 form or anything just feel like i’ve been left a bit in the dark🤣

@Laura I'll definitely be asking why I'm not getting the other checks done if they don't do it that time. This is my first pregnancy, so I wasn't sure if this was normal or just bad practice 😅 x

I’m under city hospital and the first time they checked baby’s heartbeat for me was at 25weeks but I’ve heard some not be listened to until 28weeks

I'm under Sandwell and I've not really had any appointments. I had my 16 week and was told they don't listen to the heartbeat yet as if they don't hear it they have nowhere to send you as triage is for 20 weeks upwards. Bit worrying hearing that tbh. X

O no i transferred from heartlands because of a poor experience to sandwell! I called them today and they booked me a 12 week scan and a meeting with my midwife next week. It might be worth giving them a call x

I was at Sandwell antenatal too. Asked to move to Walsall manor because I hadn’t had any info or even spoke to a midwife at all. I was 28 weeks when I moved over and I’m so happy I did. I’ve heard babys heartbeat and finally started getting some info on how he’s growing and what to expect. I felt so alone and forgotten at Sandwell 💙

@Chelsea it’s definitely bad practice. It’s my 3rd pregancy but first baby. I really felt like it was a fend for myself situation at Sandwell.

I’m under a Sandwell midwife, but giving birth in a Dudley hospital. My midwife appointment tend to be the same checks - urine, carbon monoxide and blood pressure. The next one will be the first time they measure the bump and listen for a heartbeat. And then I think they do that every visit afterwards if I remember correctly from the first time! I remember them feeling…. Not pointless, but just not as interesting as I thought they would be first time round. In my last pregnancy they didn’t give me a form. In fact I didn’t even know it was needed! I had to go to the GP to request it. You can request it anytime after your 20 week scan. If you’ve had different midwives I’d just ask your GP, it will probably be easier.
