I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure if you work whilst receiving SMP the payments will stop. I think the exception is doing self-employed work

As above. No you can't unless self employed

No!

So if I chose to go to work for another company how will they know?

Do I have to disclose this to the company or HMRC

Unless you're doing cash in hand (!) HMRC will be notified when you start your new job and the SMP will stop

If you go to another company it might be by your NI number that will notify HMRC and your new employer that you’re currently receiving SMP but I’m just guessing 🤷🏽‍♀️ but I can imagine it’d be something like that

They'll see you getting paid unless it's cash in hand.

No. You can’t work more than 10 days whilst on maternity or you’ll lose your payment. If the new company you’re work for enrolls you on payroll etc, it automatically flag to hmrc. If it’s cash in hand it’s easier to get around, although technically illegal lol.

You can’t do PAYE work when receiving SMP. Thats why I have a LTDco but then most people in my profession do and I can do consulting through my co whilst on mat leave.
