Cold sore on lip - pregnant

Hi all I got a cold sore on my lower lip. It has a yellow crust. Is Aciclovir safe to use during pregnancy? Have any of you used it and did no harm to baby? Thanks

Everything I searched said it’s perfectly safe :) I used some the other day

I have recurring prescription for it and asked my midwife early on she said its fine xx

Perfectly safe, they recommend taking it from 36 weeks for another form of HSV to prevent chances of an outbreak and passing it on to baby during birth

I used it from 36 weeks till I gave birth at 37+3 weeks it was to help prevent an outbreak of herpes so I could go natural it's safe to use but if worried ask your midwife.

Yes it's fine. I also recommend using Lysine tablets to speed up healing. 🤞

Thanks 🙏🏻

Will get topical for now

yes, i’m 37 weeks tomorrow and i’ve been prescribed some by the doctors, it’s safe to use

As everyone said, from. What I read it is safe to use. I had one when I was in my first trimester and it managed to clear. Take care 🫶🏼

@Liv oh this is the first time I hear about this! I usually catch them when I'm run down so maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Do you think it's worth mentioning to my midwife?

@Aurélie I think it depends on if you have HSV1 or HSV2. It’s only worth mentioning if you have it genitally. As the aciclovir is taken to prevent the chances of an outbreak at the time of birth. Because, in rare cases, it can be transferred to baby during a vaginal delivery and it’s very dangerous for babies. If you have any concerns though, please do mention to your midwife! x

@Liv oohh thank you so much that makes perfect sense. I've only ever had it as a cold sore form (and cornea ulcer which I was told is similar but in your cornea, that was horrid 😔) but nothing down there at all. Thanks for your reply! Yeah I heard it's so so dangerous for babies, I'm always overly cautious when I have one, I never even hold a baby if I do. x
