High blood pressure and protein

Hey - just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences. I’m 27+2 and went into triage this morning after falling on the ice, all was fine with baby, but while they were doing all their tests they picked up that my blood pressure is borderline high (has been creeping up and up since booking) and I had 1+ protein in my wee so they are worried about me having pre-eclampsia. I was there for about 5 hours before they sent me home, and I’m going back to the antenatal day unit on Monday for an appointment for further monitoring. They took bloods and said they’d ring me today if the results needed to be discussed - I’ve not heard anything. I just feel a bit in limbo until Monday.. went into triage with one problem and came out with another 🥲 and just wondered if anyone has had anything similar? Feel so worried as I did think everything was fine other than the fall

I’ve had this and it’s been going on for the last 3 weeks. I’ve been monitored and it was high maybe 4 times and I’ve had protein that many times too, then they’ve done my blood pressure at the hospital with a manual machine instead of electric and sent my urine off to the lab, & they’ve been normal. I’m going to be monitored once a week now and then once a month. Do you have any other symptoms? I had been getting headaches a bit too. Just keep an eye out for swelling, blurred vision and headaches that don’t go away. Don’t worry too much if they are going to monitor you. Xx

@Kylie thank you! Have they confirmed it is pre eclampsia for you or just still monitoring? Hate the not knowing! I don’t think I really have any other symptoms but the doctor tested me reflexes today and said they are ‘a bit brisk’ which could be an indicator. But no bad headaches or severe swelling.. all just normal pregnancy symptoms I think. Hope they managed to get you sorted! Xx

I had pre eclampsia in my last pregnancy developed around 35ish weeks as that’s when my blood pressure went up and my swelling and headaches began but I never got diagnosed with it till 40+4 where I was induced right away, as long as your being monitored you’ll be absolutely fine try not to stress I know it’s hard!! But if anything changes just keep on at them everyone your worried or feeling unwell or anything they left me quite a while when I was pregnant really I should of been induced around 37 weeks with all my symptoms but they ignored me so by 40 weeks I was unrecognisable due to the amount of swelling I had! Thankfully as soon as baby was born I was back to normal and I’m pregnant now with my second they are watching me extra closely to ensure it doesn’t happen again but if your feeling fine and not experiencing many symptoms I wouldn’t worry xx

I haven’t had pre eclampsia but I’ve got a higher risk of having it due to something else. All I will say on it, I know it’s a bit worrying but the fact that they’ve noticed this now is good and they can monitor you. If it were to come back you had it, the earlier they catch it the better x

Glad baby Ok after your fall on ice I bet that must have been very worrying for you and my bp would likely be raised under those circumstances too! Were dehydrated at all? If it is early signs of preeclampsia the fact they found it is a good thing because now they will keep you and baby safe. I had preeclampsia in my first pregnancy and so I've been monitoring my own bp at home as well as being under closer observation by the Obstetrician. Do you have a monitor at home? If not I'd suggest getting one and then you can see how it is and call triage if it goes particularly high. Also I'd call and ask about the results for peace of mind x

I’m angry and miserable all the time 😭

@Sarah thank you! I feel like I’m always a bit dehydrated to be honest.. really struggle to get enough fluid, can this affect blood pressure? I don’t have a monitor at home but it’s something I might consider and at least I know to be extra vigilant to the other symptoms now! Hope everything goes well for you! X

@Gabby no, they’ve confirmed I don’t have it so just being monitored at the moment. Oh, what does that mean? You too! It’s good they are keeping an eye on it for you xx

@Kylie glad they’re monitoring you and keeping an eye. Have no idea about the reflexes! The doctor just did that think where they knocked my knees/arms with a little hammer to test my reaction.. and she seemed to think they were a little concerning. Back for monitoring tomorrow so hopefully they can answer all my questions! Xx
