Potty training - anyone started?

I’m thinking to introduce it after morning wake up and before bath, as I’ve read that’s good time to catch them! But otherwise a bit lost on how to start. I am sure I want to introduce it now though. Any tips/ advice appreciated!

I started sitting my little one on the potty in the morning whilst I go for a wee, just so she can get used to it. She got the hang of it right away and more often than not does a wee/poo in it :) x

Every child’s different but it will do no harm trying to introduce it. I got one for my little boy and my first thought was to introduce it as a seat, that didn’t work, he uses it as a bag or a hat so decided to put it in the bathroom and give it another couple of months

I've introduced from a young age. Sit them on after a nap and if I see him straining to do a poo I'll sit him on if I'm quick. Have caught a couple of them and he's wee'd in the potty a few times.

We’ve started introducing it but not formally training yet. We do his nappy changes for wees standing up so we’ve introduced the potty to catch any wees he does during that and to start building the association that pee goes in there. He does sit on it too but hasn’t done anything in it whilst sitting yet. We have another one in the bathroom, my plan was to sit him on it when I’m using the toilet but he just plays with that one 🤣

Thanks all for the useful advice. Any recommendations for best potties for boys? I’ve a🥲read it’s best to have a high fronted one? But might be overthinking this whole thing 😅

Interesting to read this as my boy has started grabbing his nappy when he has have a wee! So we are making a big thing of that so he associates that feeling as a wee and he also says ‘poop’ when he’s done one if we ask 🤣 Maybe a potty is required!

I tried first thing in the morning but found he wasn't weeing so just do after meals now it doesn't take as long. It's a lot of trial and error we read same 3 potty books every day, sing songs. I run the tap and sing a potty song. It's from the hey duggee book but I made up a melody because when I looked on YouTube the actual hey duggee potty song is totally different from the one on the book. I show him the wee and poo as we pour it in the toilet and we wave bye bye. Definitely its helping build vocabulary for when we eventually start potty training for real ie give up nappies. To help him relax I exaggerate breathing in and out and ask him to copy. Ask if his tummy or peepee feels full. Ask if he feels better after the wee. If I teach him other yellow things I remind him wee is yellow too. I'm basically focusing on the words to learn because he definitely can already hold it and the main job is getting him to relax to do it in the potty and to learn that the floor is not the correct place !

@Karen my boy loves his flushing music potty that looks like a toilet. Was 1st bday present as we were hoping he would play with that rather than obsessively trying to play with the actual toilet. https://amzn.eu/d/4c2QG7Z It has a splash guard but you still have to teach them not to lean back too much or it will still go on the floor. Last week he did a wee every single time and pooed twice. Trying to make it as fun as possible and lately he doesn't want to wash his hands so to compromise he splashes hands in a bucket on the floor and I still wash them and it's still fun
