Sertraline advice please!!

So I came off my Sertraline earlier this year and was doing okay but recently have been super anxious all the time and feel like I need to go back on. Can I just start taking it again? Or should I speak to my doctor first? I have an appointment but it isn’t until December and I’m really struggling! I was on it for roughly 3 years, 50mg and then down to 25mg

Did you stop taking with doctor advice or you decided to stop? I think it’s better to speak to your GP ASAP

Get in to see a doctor asap!! I was on the highest of sertraline and when i stopped I was worse (heightened by person situations at the time) don’t just start talking them again , it sounds like you came off them on your own and not with the doctor, I did the same and it isn’t good at all! I was having withdrawals form them, because of the dosage I was on Tell them you’re really bad and need to see a mental health nurse asap to discuss medication, they should give you one, (I’m aware it may be different where you are)

@Klaudia I did it without seeing anyone which was probably not the best idea 😅 where I lived at that point it was nearly impossible to get an appointment! and i kept missing doses (forgot to take them) and feeling awful so i thought it was better to stop completely, but think i will wait until i’ve spoken to them

@Morgan I didn’t actually get bad withdrawal which was odd since I’d been on them for a while but I have realised it might have been the wrong time. I’m functioning ok but I feel like it’s creeping up on me again

I heard that if you will stop taking your medication especially Sertraline, anxiety or panic attacks will come back very strong 😟 I used to suffer a lot with anxiety and very very strong panic attacks it was awful 😢

It’s great to recognise it before it goes too far, i didn’t at the time, but when I recently did it with my newer meds I could feel myself slipping, it was not long after a miscarriage, and a lot of family stuff, It was the wrong time to think I could cope and I was okay to come off them, again cold turkey, I’m back on them now and I’m doing loads better, I do miss a day or so even now, but I make sure I take them the next day, I’m also setting an alarm on my phone so it reminds me to take it daily, I don’t want to end up where I used to be, not now I have a daughter, I’m no longer doing it for me. I’m doing it for her!

I just started taking this medication and my Dr specifically said not to just stop because of the common side effect of worsening anxiety and depression... please call your Dr and tell them what's going on!! They will help you

@Hannah mine was bad, I got the shakes and everything but I was out on the highest dose because they didn’t work for me, I’m on a low dose of Citalopram now and they’ve been working really well for me, I’m not ashamed to be a medicated mother, it means that I can be the best me for my daughter!

I’d see if there’s community behavioral health services in your city. I live in Philadelphia and we have crisis centers where people can do walk ins to get their medication the same day

Definitely see your GP! If you're struggling for an appointment sooner, then I'd ring 111 to explain the situation, then hopefully they can offer you an appointment whether that's in person or on the telephone. It's so common for people to come off them, and feel fine etc but look after yourself. If you're missing doses, maybe change the time of day you take them- discuss with GP. Some people find it easier to take them at night when there's not the chaos of the morning etc.
