Mexican Mamas or Mamas from Mexico I need your help

My fiance is Mexican, and grew up in Mexico. I am a full white and grew up in a small town in Montana! My fiancés mom is still in Mexico, we are still waiting on papers. She wants to meet her grandbaby and me! Which I want to meet her to, with distance she has been amazing to me. Our set back? We have to go to Mexico. They are from the middle central area of Mexico and I am so scared to go there. Can any moms from Mexico ease my mind that it is safe for us to visit! Or even give me any advice when we do go to visit! 😭

I have family in Durango and I’ve learned that areas where there is no tourism seems to be the safest. At least in my experience and I had to deal with the cartels head on. So if she is not in the city city and away from touristy areas it’ll be safe. But it’s just like here you can’t always keep your guard down.

@Yesy why are the areas with no tourism the safest? According to my fiancés family the cartel has slowed down in their area and have became a safer area. His dad and little brother are going down to visit over Christmas so we will know more on what is going on down there I’m just a nervous wreck about going

I had a co-worker who would go with her husband and kids to visit his mother in Mexico. I cannot remember the city but she told me they wouldn’t leave the house once it got dark cause that’s when it wasn’t as safe.

@Trinity so with my family we live in a small ranch 2 hours away from the major city and trust me the cartel came to our ranch took our weapons and did they do but after that if we left them alone they left us alone and they knew the amount of money and how people lived. When I visited my family in chihuahua Juarez I saw more activity there because they know people coming from states will have things especially those who send things to family members, those will always be targeted. So when there’s tourist areas around they know people with money go there and although, and that’s with personal experience it’s like when I went to Germany there was so many pick pocketers Mexico it’s a hit or miss half the time people don’t worry about it my thing is if you don’t bother them they don’t bother you. I’d be more scared about the people there because envy shows. But if you will be with family I’m sure you will be okay.

I'm not from Mexico but I've been to visit multiple times. It completely depends on where you are. I've only been to safe areas I feel so I'm didn't feel bad at all! Ask all the questions and trust the locals, they know best.

My MIL told me whenever they would visit Mexico when my husband was small, she would dress them and herself in raggedy clothes so they wouldn’t look like they had money. I can’t remember which part of Mexico they would visit. But they were away from the city, on a ranch. I don’t have much advice, as I was in the same boat as you whenever we talked about visiting.

I’m just going to come out and say it, it’s not safe… there’s a reason people flee to America. For example, I was washing once n my son was in his carrier attached to my body (in America) and some older Mexican lady said she could hold him while I loaded the washer. Not uncommon a lot of older Mexican ladies offered that day. I politely declined and she responded, “what it’s not like we’re in Mexico I’m not going to steal your baby, in Mexico though they would”… lol weird But yeah it’s not safe, you can’t say Mexico is safe but… but it has to be someone there aren’t tourist… but you can’t go out at night… but you have to dress cheap… but you need to act like you speak the language. Too many people are down on their luck and will take advantage of whoever they can to get a few extra bucks so I say wait for those papers to go through… If I haven’t convinced you yet, people in the US military aren’t allowed to vacation in Mexico. My husband was a marine and he legit was not able to

It’s happened multiple times where marines and airmen have been held hostage and eventually tortured and killed just for funsies
