Recurrent miscarriage investigation, how soon after the miscarriage can I start the tests? (I have private medical insurance)

Hi ladies, I m just having my second MMC in a row in 6 months and I have been referred to the Recurrent Miscarriage unit through the NHS. They told me to wait until the miscarriage is completed (I m spotting at the moment, since yesterday) and to have a scan in two weeks to see if everything has cleared. Also, they booked me in for tests on February. I have medical insurance which covers miscarriage investigation and I was wondering if I can speed up the time to start the investigation because, being completely honest, I don’t want to waste a minute as I want to get pregnant again soon (I am 35 and I have a 2 years old). Any of you had had any experience privately and can tell me how soon after the miscarriage you could already start to do blood tests etc? Many many thanks in advance!!!

I can’t actually give you advice for this but I wanted to say I’m so sorry😕I really hope this process is speedy as possible for you and that you and your family get some peace from this❤️

@Jenny thank you uso much! Your empathy means a lot to me ❤️😘

I'm sorry for your losses. I was also in a similar position to you, I had 2 early losses in a span of 6 months or so when I was 35 years old. Yes absolutely you can do the blood tests and scans with your medical insurance first, as the recurrent miscarriage clinic would be asking you to do these anyway when you see them. I'm not sure how soon you can do the tests, mine was about 1.5 months later only because I didn't know exactly what I had to do then, didn't know insurance could cover it. I think it also makes sense to do the sperm analysis for your husband as well. NHS can do a referral for this. Hope this helps!

@Sabrina thank you Sabrina! I shall wait the two weeks and then contact the private gynaecologist to see what he tells me :)

I was told by my OB that by the books it's only after 3 that they start testing. They tested me after 2 and a second opinion. Everything was fine, only thing that came up for me is I have an MTHFR gene mutation. I have a 4yr old and I'm 29. First loss was due to Trisomy 13, no family history whatsoever of that. Second loss, my ob just blew me off.

@Kailee thank you so much for the info Kailee!!! And I wish you the best for you and your family 💪🏼❤️ Big 🤗

I’m really sorry, that’s tough. I had a MMC and a chemical last year. I’ve had investigations done twice but through nhs. My chemical was end of November and as we already had an appointment with a specialist booked for end of December, that went ahead and testing started in January. I’d say in a month or so you’d be good to start testing but if you get the ball rolling by speaking to the right people,they will advise you. You need to make sure all tests are completely negative and all pregnancy tissue and hormones have gone before they begin or you could get false readings

@Sarah thank you so much!!
