When to start pumping?

My partner is ready to start helping with feedings but I’m exclusively breastfeeding now. Baby is 9 days old. When should I start pumping? I have a lot of milk already coming in. Also when breastfeeding, baby keeps choking on milk because it is coming down really fast. Any tips??

Pump whenever you get the chance so you have extra on the side :)

After a feed

Try pumping for about 5 minutes or hand express a little before feeding if possible to prevent too fast letdown. Pump again after feeding and store. Look up how to store properly to maximize nutrition. I personally combined all my cooled milk from the same 24 hours and then bagged it and froze. Water water water. Oatmeal in the morning, prenatals help as well. If needing to increase supply, power pump first thing in the morning, and don't miss your middle of the night pump, even if feeding baby. I have 2 babies that I breastfed/pumped into bottles. And lastly, latch baby whenever possible because breastmilk is made on supply and demand.

I’ve been told by lactation consultant and midwife that pumping is too early since he is only 9 days old and to wait 2-4 weeks. Is that true?
