Crying when weaning?

I recently started giving my LG some porridge mixed with formula to start weaning. She has about two spoonfuls and then cries. Could this be that she doesn’t like it or isn’t ready? She’s 5.5 months.

I thought you had to use water not milk🤦🏽‍♀️

@Paige differant brands require water or formula. We personally like formula with ours

We tried a rusk mixed with 1/2-1oz of formula before her second bottle of the day is due usually around 10ish and she enjoys. Could always move to the porridge after. She may not like the texture initally, with the rusk you can have really smooth or with the odd lump to get her use to textures

My HV said to stay away from Rusk as they have way too much sugar! We have started with baby porridge mixed with water x

It’s hard to know, is it a cry as if she wants more? Or is she crying while being fed with it? How are you doing the porridge? Is it blended so completely smooth? Or is it baby porridge? Or is it just normal porridge oats - if the last one, it could be that she’s not ready for that texture yet. I would personally say to start with single veg - that’s what I did with my two kids, then moved on to other things.

Is she crying when you stop offering it or is she having 2 spoonfuls and then crying and refusing to take more? I agree with Emily about starting with single veg, definitely avoid rusks they are full of sugar.

@Rebekah rusks aren't good for weaning babies. They're full of sugar

We started with porridge mixed with breast milk today and she did the same thing. Cried after a couple of mouth fulls but then opened her mouth wide for more and ate the lot!
