this is just my experience, but for me, I didn’t actually need a lot of the things that people usually recommend. I just have the obvious essentials, my baby is almost 4 months old and we’ve been just fine - although I did recently buy one of those light projectors and it helps her calm down before bed
@Bie I'm the same. I'd recommend boring things - pelvic floor physio, lactation consultants and a coffee budget. And a good baby carrier. Before any of the things I was told were essentials.
The only essentials with my son was gas drops and zip up/ Velcro swaddles. Everything else was just the simple stuff. Bottles, bottle warmer. I will say the Dr browns formula pitcher was handy if you’re planning on using formula. Other than that I didn’t have many of the special new gadgets
@Louise definitely! I think as long as the baby has all the essentials, the next most important thing is to make sure the mother has what she needs, such as support for her physical or mental health (nobody told me how important these things would be after giving birth) so this is definitely something I would look into, especially if you’re in a country where you may need to pay for these things
Thank you all for your input! I definitely want to only get the absolute must-haves.. it seems like the sleeper suits are a need for sure. I didn’t have that with my first and maybe that’s why he barely slept through the night lol
Baby brezza machine in case you can’t or don’t want to breastfeed
My biggest must have so far is my flip light. It’s really good for late night diaper changes and feedings it’s like a little egg
Silver nipple shields/cups if breastfeeding 🙌🏻
Hey Jo! I'm also having a newborn after almost 3 years. Here's what I've got: Muslin cloths Zip up onesies Baby wash Baby carrier (optional) Portable change pad (like a moses basket where baby can nap and be changed) (also optional) BF pillow (optional) Diaper cream Diapers Bassinet
Bf pillow Good carrier or sling Love to dream swaddle
Honestly, for me, it's our travel bassinet. I use it downstairs to lay baby down in when they fall asleep and I need my hands free. I have used traveling, but I use it everyday as a second safe sleep space downstairs and it's small so it doesn't take up room like a pack and play does
5 year age gap too! So many new things and no buy buy baby near me 😭
Swaddles, we prefer the Love To Dream arms up ones. Baby carrier. Breast pump (even if you plan on breastfeeding). You really don’t need much for a newborn
Having a foldable changing pad. I don't trust public restrooms 😭😂
